Rory McIlroy has been in the news for some time ever since his feud with Patrick Reed hit the headlines. After what Reed did on the field at the Dubai Desert Classic, fans were expecting a huge response from McIlroy. But the Irish professional has defended the LIV Golf rebel with his statements.

Patrick Reed, who has been accused of cheating during tournaments, recently did something very upfront. And his actions went against his alleged respect towards PGA Tour golfers, especially Rory McIlroy. As per reports, Reed came forward to greet the Irishman at the Dubai Desert Classic but was ignored by him. And as things turned out, fans saw Reed throwing a tee toward McIlroy in disgust.

The world was expecting the PGA Tour pro to strongly react to what happened. But to everyone’s surprise, he claimed that he was completely unaware of Reed’s objectionable activities. Moreover, according to what GolfMagic shared, the golf star is even defending the Saudi league player for what he did.

While interviewing with the reporters, McIlroy said, “I don’t think it would be a big deal if it wasn’t Patrick Reed…it’s almost like a hobby to sort of kick him when he’s down. … It’s hard because you try to give the player the benefit of the doubt, right.” The tournament winner has never been a big fan of the breakaway circuit. The highly-vocal golfer has also made several statements about players who shifted to LIV. Not to forget, he also suggested that Greg Norman should quit his role as the CEO of the league.

‘Shows Nothing’: Patrick Reed’s Latest Rule Controversy Leaves Golf World Divided

McIlroy has not shown any signs of being greatly affected by his rival’s actions. He admitted that while he was down on his bag, Reed came up to him to say hello. But showing no acknowledgment of his presence around him, the golfer didn’t even look towards the ‘4 Aces’ player.

The world champion also said that in case it was he who threw the tee at Reed, he would expect a lawsuit from him. It was clearly a subtle yet strong threat pointed toward the LIV golfer. However, McIlroy hasn’t taken any such actions about the situation yet.
