Scottie Scheffler has been dominating the 2024 season, and this has been indisputable. He has bagged a total of eight wins this season, which includes winning at the International Paris Olympics in August. His driving accuracy, approach shots, and putting have been unmatched, with many calling him the most well-rounded player in the game right now. He also added that having someone dominate the game like Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, himself, or Tiger Woods in the 2000s helps in bringing in good coverage. With that, he has also managed to attract the attention of the legends. Take Gary Player for example.
The PGA Championship was a bit of a challenge for the World No. 1, with a few hiccups along the way. Despite it all, he still managed a solid T8 finish. But through it all, he emphasized how important it is for Scottie Scheffler to continue his dominance on the course. “Fantastic. He’s a very nice man. He’s got a perfect golf swing. He gets all his weight going to the left side and that is the most important thing. He does that better than others,” he said. Why wouldn’t he? Scheffler set a new record for strokes gained this season, surpassing his career best and making him one of the most consistent players on the tour. And well, legend Lee Trevino agrees with Player on this.
In September, Scheffler wrapped up a remarkable seven-win PGA Tour season by claiming the Tour Championship and the $25 million FedEx Cup bonus, bringing his total earnings for the year to an impressive $62.2 million. His current career earnings are at a whopping $71,793,586.

Lee Trevino, taking to this, told Michael Breed, “Here he is in the top of the world, what did he win, $62 million last year? He ruled the PGA Tour and then all of a sudden he changed his grip. But you know what? He’s a very intelligent little guy. Not little guy, he’s a big man, and he is very intelligent when it comes to trying stuff.” At the 2024 Hero World Challenge, the World No. 1 defeated Tom Kim with a whopping six strokes. And guess what? He did it with a new grip.

Scottie Scheffler has been practicing the grip since being off the course since September, and what exceptional rounds did he pull off with it? “This guy is the total package. He doesn’t have a weakness; that’s the thing about him. Everybody talks about all that right foot slides way back in, and I said, You know I like that, and that’s it, I like that simply because I was always taught hitting at seven o’clock, come from the inside. Nobody gets inside of the ba-l more than he does because he slides that right hill back and it allows his hands to drop inside more. But I mean this guy is unbelievable,” added Trevino. Agreeing to Gary Player, he also said, “Gary told me that. There’s gonna be a guy at the tall. He’s gonna be a big guy, and he’s gonna rule. And I think he has arrived.”
Well, they are not the only ones. Even legends from the 2000s agree with what they have to say. Tiger Woods was responsible alone for bringing in so much footage for golf in his prime time. Even at the Masters, despite finishing at 60, he had a huge crowd following him through his tee-off. And yet, he puts his entire faith in Scottie Scheffler.

Tiger Woods says Scottie Scheffler is prepared for yet another historic year
One of Scottie Scheffler’s standout achievements this year was his back-to-back victory at the Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas, which made him only the third player in PGA Tour history to win the prestigious Hero World Challenge twice. This feat placed him alongside legends like Tiger Woods and Viktor Hovland, both of whom had previously achieved the same milestone. And well, not to forget that this time he was given the trophy by the host himself.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Scottie Scheffler the new Tiger Woods, or is his dominance just a passing phase?

What an ending to an extraordinary season. On Sunday, Tiger Woods joined Dan Hicks and Smylie Kauffman at the NBC broadcast, and they discussed several things, including Scottie Scheffler’s new grip. “What is that thing?” the 48-year-old said jokingly to Dan Hicks and Smylie Kaufman. Putting has been the most significant weakness in Scheffler’s game.
In 2023, he gained 2.61 strokes, the second-best figure in ShotLink history (since 2004), behind only Tiger Woods’ 2.98 in 2006. Despite his excellence, Scheffler ranked 162nd on the Tour in strokes gained putting, even though he secured two wins that season. He has linked up with Phil Kenyon to work on his putting skills, and well, they believe it is here to stay. To which Tiger Woods without any doubt said, “(Scheffler) can do it either way.”

Woods added, “He’s got an amazing feel. I mean, you see that around the short game and his trajectory control into the greens. If he has consistent weeks or consistent times on the greens, he’s gonna finish the top 10 every week, and then he’s gonna pick off a lot.” Well, where’s the lie? The 28 YO has been invincible, and it looks like no one can stop him. What are your thoughts on Scottie Scheffler?
