More information about the new competition
Six players, all of whom are PGA Tour Champions members who are 50 years of age or older, will be on each of the three teams. The biggest names, though, are the captains. Ernie Els, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, will face off against Darren Clarke, the 2011 Open Championship victor, and Jim Furyk, the 2003 U.S. Open champion. Peter Jacobsen, a well-known golf pundit, and seven-time PGA Tour winner, will also serve as the inaugural event’s chairman.
The event will be a yearly three-team, three-day match-play tournament. Nine-hole competitions will be held for the World Champions Cup. Both singles play and team formats will be used in the matches. The team with the most points emerges triumphant at the competition after all of the games.
