Earlier this year, at LIV’s inaugural event, Smith performed a shoey, which is basically pouring a beer in your shoe and then drinking it! Shoeies are a very common and almost traditional party move in Australia. And so, when the 2022 Open Championship winner walked on the greens of the 12th hole ahead of the event on Thursday, the home fans wanted to see him do it.

While Smith walked across the 12th hole, the famous Australian music producer Fisher ran up to him with a shoe in one hand and a beer in the other. As the crowd cheered him on, he asked the golf pro to do a shoey, but he was in no mood having hit a terrible shot there just minutes before. He laughed, brushed him aside, and kept walking. Fisher, of course, chugged the beer down himself. But unfortunately, the fans didn’t take the golfer’s refusal well.

Golf fans were left infuriated by Smith’s rejection

Smith’s brushoff of the famous Aussie and the even more famous Aussie tradition didn’t sit well with the fans. Taking to Instagram, where Fisher had posted his rejection video, captioned, “Can’t win them all,” they expressed their disappointment. “Bloody cam smith letting us down,” wrote one fan. Another stated. “Cam needed to handle that.” Yet another fan wrote, “Cams too cool for you.”

Many fans also suggested that Smith definitely considered the drink but avoided it because he was out on the course. “CAM SMITH 100% wanted to drink with the 🐟,” commented one. Another wrote, “He thought about it hahaha.” Regardless, fans were impressed with the one-time major winner’s refusal!
