In early 2024, Lexi Thompson announced her decision to retire from full-time professional golf, expressing a desire to explore life beyond the sport—“While“ it is never easy to say goodbye, it is indeed time. At the end of 2024, I will be stepping away from a full professional golf schedule.” It was time for her to look beyond the greens. She made it clear that her commitment to her aspirations of having a family took precedence—”I” hope to have a family one day. And just enjoy every experience of that and be there for every single moment. That’s the most important for me.” Thompson, who has been playing on the LPGA Tour for the last 15 years, has only known golf as her life. She has been frequently seen emphasizing the fact that she now ‘wants to be able to enjoy other things’ and has time away from the game without any guilt. And she did just that!
During her New Year’s trip, she announced her engagement to Max Provost, a significant milestone in her personal life. She is all set to marry Provost next year, and preparations have already started. Clearly, family is important to her. In one of her recent interviews, she reiterated the same point.
When asked how she manages work and life, her answer was an honest one. “I think the need for balance and the value of it is something that I learned through the years, but it’s still something that I’m trying to figure out because all I know is training and practicing. I have to tell myself sometimes it’s OK to take a day off or go on a vacation and not feel bad. I still have to kind of put that in my mind and be OK with it,” she said. All her time on the Tour, Thompson was a private person and struggled with mental health issues. Now, she understands the importance of breaks.

“Other than that, I’m not jumping into too many big life decisions. I want to settle down, to have kids, and it’s now all about being able to have the time at home, being around my family, and the close people around me. That’s what matters most to me, and I’m realizing that’s what always mattered to me,” continued the 11-time LPGA Tour winner. Her life now comprises golf too, but as per her own liking.
She plays selectively now, and has made three starts already in the 2025 season, Lexi said, “It’s not like I’m just going out here to show face,” finishing 14th at The Chevron Championship. She is all set to make her record-tying 19th appearance at the Women’s US Open, too.

Only players understand their struggles and what it takes to still show up every day to practice and show their dedication to the game. And for someone who experienced the spotlight as early as just 11 years old, Lexi Thompson feels that it’s super important to acknowledge and recognize when you feel you might need help. We can only imagine the surmounting pressure she has struggled with if she had already bought her first house at the age of 19 in one of the wealthiest, golf-centric enclaves in the US.

Thompson’s focus turns to personal milestones
After stepping back from full-time competition, Lexi Thompson isn’t just freeing up her schedule — she’s rewriting her approach to life and sport. With a self-curated 2025 tournament calendar of 10 events, including two Majors, Thompson is balancing her love for golf with a deeper commitment to personal well-being, fitness, and mental health. While she still maintains her practice routine, but does not spend the same hours on the course as she used to. This has helped her put less pressure on herself without letting go of the feeling of still wanting to win. But this new balance and change in lifestyle will allow her to pursue her other interests, like fitness.

She’s often seen posting frequently about her workouts and has even launched her own fitness app. Exercise has always been an outlet for her, and it has not only helped her physically, but she also speaks of the impact it has had on her mentally. Having time to herself now might open new doors for and she might look at the potential of owning a gym in the future. While we will continue to see her on the LPGA Tour, her new pace reflects a broader philosophy — one rooted in family, self-care, and pursuing life beyond the fairway.
