The ANNIKA 2025 is one of the biggest events on the LPGA Tour, hosted by the legendary Annika Sorenstam. It is a regular event on semi-retired pro Lexi Thompson’s schedule. While she has taken a partial retirement from golf, the 11x LPGA Tour winner has made sure to play at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge. However, what transpired there is not something she would have hoped for.

Lexi Thompson is among the biggest names who missed the cut at The ANNIKA 2025. Although she didn’t make it to the weekend, she took to Instagram to show gratitude to fans, management, and sponsors. Thompson also showed gratitude to the volunteers and staff.
Posting a carousel of two images of herself, Thompson wrote, “Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, and fans for making this week possible at the @theannikalpga 🙂 also a big thanks to the Doyle family and all the course staff at Pelican Golf Club for always making it one of the best weeks !👏🏼”

Lexi Thompson was playing the event for the third consecutive time. Her best performance came in 2023, when she was in the field for the first time. She had an impressive start back then, and she gave credit to the Solheim Cup and the Shriners Children’s Open for that. “Both (events) did extreme amounts for my confidence, just being able to play aggressive golf,” said Thompson after Round 2 of The ANNIKA 2023. She fired rounds of 64-70-66-67 to finish T7 in her debut at The ANNIKA.
In 2024, however, she didn’t make the cut. After rounds of 70-73, she was 3 over par, while the cut was an on-par 140. The game extending late into the evening could have played a part here. Thompson was paired with Nelly Korda and Charley Hull, and all three were not happy with it. Hull was the most vocal. “It’s ridiculous,” said Hull, “and I feel sorry for the fans with how slow it is out there.” Even Annika Sorenstam said that LPGA stars need to be a little quicker. “These players are role models,” said Sorenstam. “You see the young girls out here, they’ve got to show how to play fast if they’re going to grow this game.”

Lexi Thompson missed the cut this year, too. She fired rounds of 71-74 to finish 5 over 145 after two rounds. The last cut was a one over 141. Thompson missed the cut by four strokes. Her second round was especially brutal for her. She made only one birdie on hole 14, while making 5 bogeys on holes 1, 3, 8, 10, and 18.
However, she is not the only popular name who missed the cut; many others have.

Another elite name to miss the cut is Megan Khang. The 2023 CPKC Women’s Open champion finished 2 over par with rounds of 71-71. Her two double bogeys, one in each round, significantly affected her chances. In Round 1, it was on par 5 hole 7, where Khang took eight strokes to make it to the hole. Khang was two under par before that and was suddenly one over par. In the 2nd round, it was hole 18. She was on par before that and could have made the cut even with a par score or a bogey. However, she took six strokes on the par-4 hole, ending her chances of playing on the weekend.
Besides that, the 2025 US Women’s Open and 2x LPGA winner Laja Stark also didn’t make the cut. After a decent one over par 71 in Round 1, she had a terrible Thursday. She scored a double bogey on hole 12 and a triple bogey on hole 18. With this, her final score after Day 2 was a five over par 145, just like Lexi Thompson.

The 5x LPGA winner Lilia Vu, who won the event in 2023, also missed the cut. She was nine over par with rounds of 74-75. The hole 18 that troubled every other golfer mentioned in this article affected Lilia Vu’s game, too. She scored a triple bogey on hole 18 in Round 2. Even below her was another popular name, the debutant Kai Trump. After receiving words of wisdom and support from Tiger Woods, Donald Trump, Vanessa Trump, and others, she was all set to make her debut. However, it didn’t go as she had planned. With rounds of 83-75, she is the last on the leaderboard with an 18 over par.
Many elite golfers missed the cut at The ANNIKA 2025. Although Lexi Thompson’s week didn’t go the way she hoped, her message showed how much she values the people who support the event year after year.
