But what caught the attention of the golf world was a moment that the 28-year-old experienced on the course while playing against the opponents in their territory. In the fourball session on Friday evening, Thompson tried to chip a shot, at the 18th hole, from a nasty side-hill in the rough in a bid to score an eagle to win the match. The 1X major champion’s shot swerved to the right of her clubface which led the ball to roll down the slope of the elevated greens. This led to the 11X LPGA Tour winner and her partner Lilia Vu losing the match to Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall.

In a press conference after the match, the professional was asked about the same shot at 18th, to which she replied, “I don’t need to comment on that.” The response surprised the interviewer as the embarrassing moment turned out to be something that the 28-year-old didn’t want to talk about.
