Many golfers cherish giving back to the community. Golf Digest has recognized several of them through their Arnie Awards. For instance, Susan McGahan used to buy $500 sandwiches from her golf club’s kitchen and donate them. The idea is very simple, yet it can have a significant impact on someone’s life. This year, the LPGA decided to recognize such women golfers with the inaugural Dow Impact Award. The nominees for the award included Moriya and Ariya Jutanugarn, Lexi Thompson, Jennifer Kupcho, Rose Zhang, and Gaby Lopez.

After a nomination process that ran for around one month, Lexi Thompson emerged victorious. As she won, Girls Golf uploaded an Instagram post with the caption, “Congratulations to our former #Exercise Ambassador @lexi for winning the 2025 Dow Impact Award! You’ve paved the way for generations of girls, and we cannot thank you enough for all the time you’ve given to our members over the years #OneMillionMOREGirls” The 11x LPGA Winner had a simple two-word response to this. She reposted the Girls Golf post to her story and wrote, “Thank You!” with clapping hands and a hand heart emoticons.

The Dow Impact Award was started by Dow and the LPGA to recognize and honor LPGA athletes who exemplify passion and service off the course as well. Thompson had requested fans to vote for her when the voting began. Girls Golf posted a video where Thompson said, “I’m very grateful for what I have in my life, and the people that I have in my life. To be able to make a difference in the world that’s more important to me than anything. It means the world to me to be nominated for the LPGA Dow Impact Award.” She reposted this on her story and wrote, “Not too late to vote!! Click the link below ☺️”

Around 3,400 fans cast their votes. Lexi Thompson won after receiving 48% of the votes and, in turn, will receive $25,000 cash. The Morgan Pressel Foundation, her chosen charity, will receive the same amount. “I am honored to be named the first recipient of the Dow Impact Award,” said Thompson. “I am especially thankful to the fans who cast their votes for me throughout this process. I am grateful to Dow for providing us nominees a platform, allowing us to bring awareness to the various causes and charities we help support to a wider audience.”

The LPGA and Dow recognized Thompson because of her involvement in many positive services. The semi-retired LPGA Tour pro takes time to help many in need through various modes. She runs her own Lexi Thompson Foundation, which helps communities in Florida and across the US. Besides that, she is also active with many other foundations. These include Girls Golf, Friends of Golf, First Tee, and others. She also supports multiple breast cancer foundations. The Morgan Pressel Foundation, the charity of her choice, is also a breast cancer foundation. The cause is very close to the 11x LPGA winner because her mom also had breast cancer.

LPGA stars who are known for giving back to their community

Danielle Kang is one of the elite names who like to do charitable work. She worked with UNICEF in their Birdies to Build Better Futures campaign in 2019. The campaign aimed to encourage more people to donate to UNICEF so it could better meet children’s needs. “When fans see me make a birdie, I want them to be reminded that there’s an organization called UNICEF that’s helping children,” Kang says. “And I want them to be inspired to help too.”

Minjee Lee works with Las Vegas Sands to promote female athletes as role models. She tries to encourage young women in sports and community leadership. “It’s really important for global companies to support women in sports, especially women’s golf,” Lee said. The former World No. 1, Nelly Korda, also helps those in need. In 2021, Meijer donated $25,000 to Kids’ Food Basket on behalf of Nelly Korda. “I also love kids. I have always wanted to do something for underprivileged kids, and that’s the first thing that popped into my head. Feels like a good decision, and it means so much to give back,” Korda said about her decision to give back.

The LPGA itself does a lot of charity work. The LPGA Foundation is a non-profit organization launched in 1991. The organization is dedicated to empowering women and young people through golf. Since its inception, it has positively impacted over 500,000 lives via scholarships, financial assistance, and youth golf programs.

Lexi Thompson’s recognition highlights how deeply community service runs among LPGA players. But she or the names listed in this news piece are not the only ones. There are many more who are doing their part to help communities.
