Jon Rahm has been in a form of his life since the second quarter of last year. He continues his top-notch form at the 2023 American Express, as he jointly leads the tournament alongside Davis Thompson before heading to the final round. However, the Spaniard may hadn’t had to share the leaderboard at the top if it weren’t for his mishits. Rahm has his say after a round of mixed feelings.

After scoring back to back 64 in the initial two rounds, the former World number one scored a seven under par 65 in the third round. However, Rahm was eight under par by the 12th hole further extending his lead at the top.

Nonetheless, he had a not-so-impressive back nine in the third round to his standards. He choked two birdie opportunities while missing several close putts. Let’s take a look at what Rahm had to say about his performance at the PGA West Pete Dye Stadium Course.

I feel like you guys always try to look for something that’s just not there”, said the 28-year-old. “Thirteen, great roll. Fourteen, great roll. Fifteen, great roll. Sixteen, misread. Seventeen, misread. That’s it. Very simple. All of them good strokes”. The golfer further adds how there were putts in the final holes that were much better than the early ones.

Jon Rahm said, “That’s just golf. I mean, if that isn’t a description of golf, I don’t know what is. Felt really good on a lot of ’em. It is what it is”. The current joint American Express leader also shared how he is happy that he had troubles on Saturday, and hopes to avoid it on Sunday. The European star then had some words for the TV viewers who constantly scrutinize him and other golfers.

After disclosing his thoughts, the current world number four talks about how fans watching the event on television have no value regarding the golfer’s mistakes. Rahm believes it isn’t mishits that cause the loss, instead, it’s the misread from golfers.

He said, “Oh, on TV they love to say, Oh, he mishit it. He pulled it. He pushed it. It’s not always that. Sometimes we misread the breaks and that’s what happened to me”. In the end, the 2021 US Open winner laughs off his frustration by saying, “Listen, they’re not always the easiest”.

Jon Rahm currently leads the ongoing Californian event alongside Davis Thompson at a total score of -23. With him believing all his challenges are over on the penultimate day of the American Express, who will take home the $1.44 million from La Quinta?
