What did Greg Norman share on his Instagram page?

Greg Norman certainly has a grudge against the PGA which dates back to his playing days. Writing in his 2006 book, The Way of the Shark, Norman mentioned his disillusionment with the way his Golf Tour idea played out. After the PGA announcement, Norman posted a meme directed towards Jay Monahan.

The rejection of 1994 World Golf Tour has seemingly inspired him to take on the PGA Tour, this time with the backing of an infinite cash-flow in the form of the Saudi-backed PIF.

The opinions regarding the series couldn’t have been more disparate. While some back the Tiger Woods’ analogy of protecting the game and its ideologies, some feel the rebel series will expand the game across continents. There is also a section that believes both series can co-exist together, forcing the other to better itself.

What does this mean for the future of golf?

PGA’s recent announcements are a step towards the right direction, with more lucrative changes playing a direct hand in leveling the field with LIV golf. On top of it, the Tiger Woods-Rory McIlroy led tech-driven event, which will be held complimenting the main tournament, has also increased the stakes of the PGA.

LIV Golf continues to hold the upper hand in terms of money, providing a whopping $25 million as total purse in each of its competitions. The said amount is $7.5 million more than the biggest purse offered on the PGA Tour – the $17.5 million in the US Open.

Greg’s reference to the meme was that the PGA had, in one way or the other, copied his LIV golf series. The lucrative additions to the tour are no doubt an attempt to match LIV’s bankroll. While Monahan hasn’t responded to Norman’s jibe so far, it remains to be seen how he reacts to the same.
