The news of dropping viewership has been a concern for the PGA Tour, but it was because of the long hours of play. The faster pace of play at Pebble Beach saw some redemption. However, LIV Golf, despite having a 54-hole format, and limited players, witnessed even worse.
Earlier during the off-season, LIV Golf recovered from the long-dated concern of the TV broadcaster deal. At first, news of the deal with Fox Sports came out. Days after, ITV signed a deal with the league to offer free-to-air broadcast in the UK. With two deals, the golf world expected a start of upside trends for the league. However, unfortunately, it turned out to be the opposite.
The first event, LIV Golf Riyadh tee-ed off from February 6-8, 2025. While the shocking revelation of the event was shared by NUCLR Golf’s post on X. The post read, “🚨📺⛳️ #NEW: LIV Golf averaged 12,000 viewers on FS2 for the first round of the season opener from Riyadh during the 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM broadcast, according to Nielsen. The average viewership for the LIV Golf event is 150,000. Now with the season starter, only getting 10% in the first round of LIV Golf Riyadh is a sign of concern. However, the hopes are still high as the second event is scheduled at the rowdiest crowds course, i.e., the Grange Golf Course. In the 2024 season, Jon Rahm said, “Great city, great golf course, great fans,” for the Adelaide event.

Shockingly, fans from out of the state bought more than 40% of the tickets, while 2.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the live action on TV.
With the huge expectations to fulfill from the past year, the league is ready to meet the demands of the fans with world-class action and broadcasting. With another deal extension, specifically for the Australian fans, action will be aired across the country.
