When Crushers GC won the LIV Golf Team Championship 2023 in Miami, it was Bryson DeChambeau who hit the winning shot. But fans were unaware of a nagging pain the golf professional faced. It was akin to what 4Aces captain Dustin Johnson aka DJ faced in recent times, with his hands not being stable on the course.

Golf professionals, even when in top form, may have to face physical stress that the game’s watchers don’t know about. On being asked whether he faced the same predicament as DJ at the LIV Golf Miami finals this year, Bryson DeChambeau replied in the affirmative.

In 2022, LIV Team Championship winning captain Dustin Johnson had confessed that at the last putt, his hands were not steady. The 4Aces captain had revealed it after his team took home the title of the LIV Golf Team Championship 2022 in Miami. Did Bryson face a similar bout of nervousness after winning the same championship in 2023?

“Yes, it was very nerve wracking…I was super nervous not knowing what could happen. Everybody was in a flux and I wasn’t driving it particularly my best,” said Bryson DeChambeau. He was speaking at the Crushers GC press conference in Miami at the Trump National Doral on October 22,

DeChambeau continued, “I did it very well on the front nine but the back nine didn’t do it as well…I was just trying to hit the best shot I possibly could. I was super nervous. I couldn’t feel my arms over the ball on the last hole.”

DJ faced it last year and wasn’t too happy. YahooSports had quoted him as saying after LIV 2022, “I do not like stress, so that was a little more stress than I was looking for. If that was an individual tournament, it would have been no problem, that putt. It’s straight in from three feet. But with it being the team aspect and I knew the whole team — like I had to make that for the team to win — I didn’t like it very much. My hands were not real steady.”

Bryson DeChambeau, though, is already over the nervous episode and is focused on his team. The golfer finished fourth on the individual standings. The team consists of captain Bryson DeChambeau along with Charles Howell III, Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey.

The Crushers beat Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC, who stood second. DJ’s 4Aces, who were the defending champions, were in fourth place. DeChambeau also shed light on his team-mates and praised them not a little.

“When I was choosing my team, a lot of it was there were players that wanted to be on my team and there were players that I asked to be on my team. And what’s funny is all three of these wanted to be on my team and I couldn’t have picked a better group of guys to be with. Because one, they are wiser than me, so I wanted to gain more knowledge, what they had,” he said.
