Brooks Koepka becomes candid about his teammates! The second event of the 2024 LIV Golf season saw the American pro-led Smash GC emerge victorious at the team event. Well, the skipper couldn’t help but come out with an honest opinion for one of his squad mates, none other than Graeme McDowell, popularly known as G-Mac, since he didn’t come out on top on Mayakoba.

During the interview after the win, he said, “G-Mac didn’t play good,” while alluding to the previous event. Continuing with his reply, he said, “But he obviously learned something from it and took it to this week,” while mentioning how the team had a good chance going in on Sunday. Adding on, however, Koepka expressed how proud he is of G-Mac and everybody as he said, “They played really well. Like I said, hopefully just the start of things.”

A comeback for Graeme McDowell

The professional from Northern Ireland, during the first event on the 2024 LIV Golf calendar, could only finish in the 43rd position, tied with Carlos Ortiz, Mito Pereira, and Thomas Pieters. Moreover, he was only able to register a score of 4-over par 217 with 12 bogeys, 2 double bogeys, 12 birdies and an eagle over the three days.

But, come to Las Vegas, he finished at T5, tied with the likes of his own Smash GC teammate Jason Kokrak, and Paul Casey. The three registered a score of 5 under 201. Well, McDowell did the same while dishing out a total of 13 birdies and four bogeys over the three rounds, putting up figures of 66-70-65. But, surprisingly, his last round came free of any bogeys. Truly a comeback by the golfer as opposed to the form he displayed in Mayakoba.

Although Koepka was a bit brutally candid with his teammate initially, he did point out how well the pro played on Saturday in Las Vegas, the turf of the Super Bowl. ” Impressive today with the way the wind is,” the skipper complimented before continuing ahead to say, “He’s a good competitive player, and happy to have him here” while exuding pride and pleasure for his teammates.

The Northern Irishman had joined the 33-year-old’s team after the captain’s brother, Chase Koepka, was relegated following the 2023 season. He had become part of the same after spending two years as a member of the Martin Kaymer-led Cleeks GC from his jump to LIV Golf. Well, it appears the skipper did well with his choice of golfer, as the 11-time DP World Tour champ did well with his effort to propel the team to its first win in 2024.
