With an eight-under 64 at The Grange, Danny Lee has started strong! He stands at T3 after LIV Golf Adelaide’s opening round. Lee stole the show not just with his brilliant comeback after his wrist surgery but also with his outfit: a green and white checkered shirt, sponsored by WAAC. However, in the post-round press conference, Lee admitted he was still struggling with his putting and made a few changes to improve his game.

Lee has had a decent golf career and has dealt with numerous injuries over the years, but according to him, this was his first body surgery. He even withdrew from the 2020 US Open citing a wrist injury after a terrible third round. The LIV golfer underwent wrist surgery at the end of last season and has been struggling to find form since the beginning of the season.

In the post-round 1 press conference, when asked about how he was feeling heading into the weekend, the LIV Golfer replied that his first body surgery made him feel awful: “I felt like I couldn’t even break 80.” He said he has taken some time off before as well due to his injuries but has never had to undergo body surgery. For more than two months, Lee had to focus on healing and couldn’t get involved in the practice at all.

Moreover, the golfer was thankful for LIV’s non-hectic schedule; due to that, he was able to treat his wrist ailment and take some rest for about three months, “and that time off was really awesome,” said Lee. He further added, initially, “I was kind of freaking out after the first two or three events” while he was still adjusting to his new wrist.

He elaborated on the hard work he and his coach have gone through to improve his performance. However, he is still not satisfied with his performance. The golfer is now so focused on the good part that he can now hit the balls better and added, “I made some changes after Miami, and it’s been good.” Surely this is quite visible in Adelaide, where the Iron Heads teammate is on fire on the course!

Lee in action: How did his hard work pay off?

Lee started with a bogey on the 15th hole, but that’s it! The golfer moved forward with back-to-back birdies; as a result, he was soon at five under on the front nine, followed by a chip-in at 10 for an eagle, and finished at eight under. The golfer then had three birdie chances at 11, 12, and 13 to be in the lead but none of it even dropped. Focusing on his game, Lee has also shifted to different irons and putters to improve his game.

“Obviously, any kind of golf tournament if you start with an eight-under it’s very good, even with the bogey start I tried not to freak out. Me and my team have been working really hard on my game. There was a big change with my irons and my putter, going back to a short one. Been working really hard on my putting and really glad to see the hard work is paying off. Hopefully, I can keep this up,” said the golfer.
