The Masters is an event where every golfer would hope to come out blazing. Well, Bryson DeChambeau couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the major with an amazing first round. But, interestingly, it happens to be so that he was able to dish out such a good score on Augusta National all thanks to playing on another golf course the prior week, none other than the Trump National Doral.

DeChambeau was spotted in an interview post his first round of a scintillating 7-under 65 at the ongoing major championship. Meanwhile, he was posed with a query regarding the routine he had to follow if he were on the PGA Tour and how much it would have helped him while coming into such a major championship.

Surprisingly so, the golfer replied that playing in LIV Golf Miami the previous week helped him with the preparations. Moreover, he did so all the while highlighting the challenge the specific golf course posed. “We played Doral last week, which is a brutal test of golf,” said the 30-year-old before adding, “I feel like it was a good thing that we played there and got ready for this week because this is obviously one of the best tests in golf.”

That’s not all. Bryson DeChambeau also went ahead to express his approval of the Saudi-backed league’s schedule, which has just finished its fifth event. The golfer said, ” I feel like that sort of schedule that LIV has, has provided me good, ample time to get ready for tournaments like this.”

However, he made sure not to take a specific side, as he divulged, “It would be fine either way. I’m not going to side one way or the other. It is what it is.” But even so, DeChambeau couldn’t help but express how, contrary to popular belief in the community which stands against LIV, he has been able to work better on himself and his gameplay; “I just made good use of the time that I’ve been allocated on LIV to work on my golf swing, work on the equipment that I have, and getting to a place where I’m super comfortable going into the week.”

Meanwhile, it appears the 30-year-old wasn’t the only professional from the breakaway league who had a similar opinion. Curiously, ahead of the LIV Golf event in Miami, Phil Mickelson had also dubbed the Trump National Doral as a good prep before the Masters Tournament during a press conference.

Does Phil Mickelson share a similar stance as Bryson DeChambeau?

The 53-year-old, during the interview, mentioned how Doral is a great place for those in the field of the major to get ready for the Masters Tournament. Elaborating on the same, he said, “It gives you an opportunity to get momentum if you play well but also gives you a chance to play every shot you’re going to need into Augusta.”

Besides, ‘Lefty’ also went ahead to compare the two courses at Augusta and Miami, all the while drawing similarities on the challenges the players will face in the major. “Now Augusta has more undulation and elevation changes,” he said before adding, “but Miami forces you to hit a lot of long irons, mid-irons, short irons… You have to miss it on the correct side and strategically gets you ready for all the shots, challenges, physically and mentally that we are going to face next week.”

Even so, Mickelson could only finish the round above par; meanwhile, DeChambeau managed to cement his position on the top of the leaderboard for the day despite his round ending early. Well, the ‘Scientist’ would surely be hoping to keep the momentum going and dish out a similar performance on Friday as well.
