The only polarizing aspect of the Ryder Cup squad is the presence of the LIV golfer, Brooks Koepka. He is the only Saudi-backed player to have made it to the iconic event. The decision hung in the middle for a long time, and Scottie Scheffler alone defended Koepka’s standing at first.

The Ryder Cup will begin in a day, and everybody is excited to see America try to end the 30-year-old losing streak. However, the recent contradiction between Scheffler and Koepka might cause trouble in the paradise (team room) for Zach Johnson’s squad.

The media came to Rome prepared with questions for the players. One such situation was allotted to Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler at their pre-Ryder Cup media session, and they had contradicting views.

The reporter asked the LIV golfer about an alternate format for the event. Citing the situation, they said, “If the Ryder Cup came down to one match on the course to decide it, I suspect if you ask all 24 guys here if they want the ball, they’d say yes. How many of them do you think really mean it?”

And Koepka stuck to his raw and unwavering style of answering. He expressed, “Very few. False confidence, I think.” The American patriot continued discussing mental toughness and the need to believe in your abilities.

“You’ve got to think you’re the best player on the golf course, best player on the team, best player in that current time, and if you don’t, then there’s something wrong with you.” He said. While Brooks Koepka believes many players have it, he does not know how many would want “an eight-footer with this on the line.”

Koepka believes one way to put yourself over the edge is by considering the best in you. Scottie Scheffler also answered the question, citing “self-belief,” but he and Koepka had a different point. While Scheffler believed players’ words, Koepka was caught in doubt.

Scottie Scheffler answers the same question

In his pre-Ryder Cup media session, the World No. 1 player was presented with the same question. However, his response was eerily similar yet different from his teammate. Scheffler said, I would imagine all of them are telling the truth.”

Koepka and the PGA tour pro think self-belief is vital in golf. You have to trust in yourself to get this far and play the best game of your life. But Scheffler is willing to entrust that knowledge to other players as well. All that matters, per him, is when the time comes, who can perform and prove the truth to their word.

Scottie believes, “Pretty sure everybody here has won at some level of the game.” Therefore, as per him, as a young lad, it would not make a difference whether someone is winning the Ryder Cup or any other tournament. All that would matter is that they won. “It all feels huge.” Hence, if players say they want the ball, according to Scheffler, they will do it.

Koepka, on the other hand, calls it “fake confidence” and only talks about his own unwavering belief in his game and form. Whose side are you on? Or do you have a different opinion? Let us know in the comments below!
