LIV Golf pro Ian Poulter is part of Team Majesticks GC, which finished 12th in the 2025 season. It was one of the three teams that didn’t make a podium finish throughout the year and got only 5.16 points overall. After such a poor performance for an entire season, fans were waiting to see if Ian Poulter would switch teams. 2x PGA Tour winner Johnson Wagner spilled the tea, saying the LIV Golf pro could switch to RangeGoats GC for the 2026 campaign. But will he?

Poulter vehemently denied the claim to put an end to the false rumors about the change. He added an Instagram story tagging @livgolf_league to take a dig at Wagner. Adding humor to the incident, he wrote, “Breaking news according to Johnson Wagner. The cat is out of the bag now. I’m moving to the @rangegoatsgs, Bryson is moving to @majesticksgc, Jon is moving to @ironheadsgc_, & Sergio is moving to the @rippergolfclub.”

It all started when Wagner featured on the Fried Egg Golf Podcast. The host asked him about the chances of the likes of Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia making Ryder Cup captains. To this, he said that the chances are very low because one can have money with LIV Golf or choose to be a Ryder Cup captain, but can’t be both. While discussing this, along with Ian’s son making a name on the amateur circuit, Wagner revealed that RangeGoats GC is making moves to scout him.

“He is going to be a future RangeGoat from what I’m hearing,” said Johnson Wagner on the Fried Egg Golf Podcast. As he broke this news, many media outlets covered the story, and rumors started flying that Poulter would switch teams for the 2026 campaign.

Poulter might feel that putting this out bluntly was wrong on Wagner’s part, as he or the teams have made no official statements. This makes Wanger’s comment nothing but a baseless rumor for now. Ian wanted to set the record straight and mitigate any rumors affecting his career and reputation. That’s probably why he took to Instagram and denied the claim.

And this is not the first time the LIV Golf pro has taken a dig at a critic or someone spreading false information. His Instagram post made a headline in January 2024, too.

With the start of LIV Golf in 2022, the golfing community was divided into two types of people. One type criticized the Saudi-backed league, while the other type embraced it.

Over the years, many have changed their opinions about LIV Golf. Taking to Instagram, Ian Poulter raged at these two-faced critics who changed their minds about LIV Golf. Criticizing this, Poulter wrote, “Being two-faced is a terrible trait. I’d be embarrassed having to change my story now and come out and try and look smart.”

Many believed the post was intended for Rory McIlroy, who was initially a vocal and outspoken critic of LIV Golf. But then, he admitted that he was too judgmental about the league during a podcast with former footballers Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright, and Roy Keane. However, Poulter clarified that he applauds Rory’s words, and the post was not for him but for other critics.

While Poulter is not switching teams, he certainly has to do something about his individual and his team’s performance.

Ian Poulter faced a relegation threat

A relegation threat was looming over Ian’s head because of his poor performance in 2025. While most big names were safe, a few captains and elite golfers, including Ian, faced the threat.

Poulter’s Ryder Cup record of 15-8-2 makes him a European golf legend. However, 2025 was certainly not his season. The Majesticks GC co-captain only managed 4.5 points, which came from a single top 24 finish until August 2025. This had put him in the drop zone with only two regular seasons remaining.

Thankfully, Ian birdied four of his last five holes at the Indianapolis event. With this, he tied for 17th place and narrowly escaped the relegation drop zone. The same pressure may continue in 2026 if he does not get off to a good start.

Whether Ian changes teams or not is up to him to decide. But he certainly needs to improve his game going into the 2026 campaign. Avoiding relegation will be important for his career and maintaining a key role as Majesticks GC’s co-captain.
