Dustin Johnson has zero regrets. The 4Aces Captain admits that Peter Uihlein was a great player, but believes Harold Varner III will be an equally, if not more powerful addition. For the North Carolina native, it’s a huge morale booster weeks after a humiliating DWI charge put a blot on his public image.

The 24-time PGA Tour Winner was talking about the recent shakeup in his team. One that saw Harold Varner III replacing Peter Uihlein in a shock move. It was rather unexpected considering the 33-year-old joined Bubba Watson’s team only last year. Moreover, Uihlein was instrumental in 4Aces GC’s singular dominance. Johnson, too, admits that it was a sudden move. Regardless, the 39-year-old is confident that Varner III will make the team “strong, if not stronger.”

There was no bad blood between Johnson and Uihlein. Johnson affirms, “Pete’s obviously a really good player.” Uihlein, in fact, was a key driver to the team’s success in two consecutive seasons, raking in 101 points alone last year. The American International was 12th in this year’s season-long individual leaderboard.

Uihlein was swapped because he is known to share a good rapport with Matthew Wolff. Whereas, Johnson and HV3 are “good friends. The two-time Major champion thinks getting Varner III, from RangeGoats, was a fair deal. “He’s a great player. When you look on paper, I would say they’re fairly even-matched players.” The Charlotte resident was in fact five places ahead of Uihlein in the season-long leaderboard.

But Johnson reiterates, “We never thought about trading. It just worked out that way.” Nevertheless, the 39-year-old hopes to retain the team dynamics and repeat the last two years’ success. “We’re definitely still going to be the team to beat,” Johnson told LIVGolf.com.

Adding further the 4ACes GC Captain said, “We’ve got a really solid team. Harold makes us just as strong, if not stronger. We’re definitely the team that everybody’s coming after.” The praise coming from his team captain will surely uplift the spirits of North Carolina native weeks after his public image took the rap.

The incident happened on the heels of his swap to Johnson’s team. But as it is quite evident, the captain is willing to forgive and forget a slip and embrace the 33-year-old in his team with open arms.
