Ryder Cup since 1991 and has generally delivered reliable coverage. However, fans say many of the same issues that plagued past broadcasts have returned, and this time, they appeared much earlier. In 2004, viewers complained about abrupt transitions between rounds, while the 2023 edition drew heavy criticism for excessive commercial breaks that disrupted the flow. But whereas those problems emerged a few hours into the event, this year the trouble started within the very first hour.

From

biased commentary and audio glitches to overall broadcast quality, the list of complaints is growing fast. Even professional golfers have joined fans, voicing their frustration on social media.

The golf world is criticizing the broadcast after just an hour

LIV Golf’s

Graeme McDowell was among the first to speak up, writing:

“This @USANetwork coverage driving me insane already. Think we are on the 5th commercial break. May have to flip on the @SkySports version. Any better?”

Typically, broadcasters run about 12–16 minutes of ads per hour, roughly four commercial breaks. But McDowell’s complaint suggests viewers were already on their fifth commercial break just 45 minutes into coverage, which is far above the norm.

Byeong Hun An also weighed in, posting:

“We could be seeing more commercials than golf today.”

By the end of the first hour, there were seven commercial breaks averaging three minutes each. For a 60-minute broadcast, 21 minutes of ads is just outrageous, which even leaves golfers boiling.

The frustration didn’t stop with the commercials. Viewers slammed the broadcast for failing to show key shots, even with just two golfers on the course. Fans wrote, “@NBCSports is incompetent, 4 golf balls on the course for Ryder Cup, and they aren’t showing all the shots,” and “@USANetwork, how are we ALREADY missing shots at the Ryder Cup with only 2 groups out?! Awful coverage right from the start. Unbelievable!”

Due to poorly timed commercial breaks, several crucial moments went untelevised. Moreover, fans also complained about abrupt switches in coverage, leaving entire holes unseen.

And if that wasn’t enough, the audio quality quickly became another major headache. “Fix the f***ing audio for the Ryder Cup,” one frustrated viewer wrote.

The sound was described as robotic and choppy. An issue that persisted early in the broadcast. According to sources, the problem stemmed from private 5G nodes being used for the wireless camera infrastructure, which introduced a one-second delay.

Well, this is just the beginning, and the list has gone way further than expected. As a fan sitting and planning to enjoy the live action, expectations have gone in vain. Are you also feeling the same issue? Planning to book
