After an astounding maiden victory at the American Express, Nick Dunlap was on the receiving end of appreciation from all around the golf world. Much of this came from LIV Golf players. From Jon Rahm to Ian Poulter, most were left impressed by the 20-year-old amateur’s performance.

After seeing the outpour of praise by the breakaway league’s players, a question remains in the back of many’s minds. Would Dunlap snub the PGA Tour after turning pro and join the Saudi-backed circuit after claiming success at a young age?

Nick Dunlap won the American Express and became the only amateur to win on the PGA Tour in the last 33 years after Phil Mickelson. Subsequently, the remarkable performance was noticed by Lefty as he praised the budding golfer. Mickelson congratulated him and said, “This is just the beginning.”

Furthermore, the defending champion, Jon Rahm, also shared his amazement at Dunlap. The 4-time major champ tweeted on X, applauding Dunlap for playing through pressure and rising above it, calling the win “an amazing accomplishment.” Moreover, he called the performance “stellar” and named the Alabama golfer a “great talent.” Another veteran golfer, Ian Poulter, posted on his Instagram story and claimed the win to be “pretty impressive,” as it was achieved after three decades had passed.

LIV Golf’s 2023 Individual champ, Talor Gooch, was also quite dazzled by Dunlap’s game. He retweeted one post of Dunlap talking about his homework and how it related to it. He then called the performance “incredible” and suggested Dunlap get a good finance team once he starts earning money without worrying about his homework ever again.

While FireBall GC’s young player, Eugenio Chaccara, addressed the win as “impressive” and termed Dunlap a “great player and competitor,” The immense applause from LIV Golf’s side makes one wonder if Dunlap may jump ship once he becomes a pro.

The breakaway circuit is notorious for approaching young golfers as they rise on the PGA Tour. If you have forgotten, LIV Golf contacted Ludvig Aberg before he debuted as a pro, as well as Nicolai Hojgaard, although both declined the deal. Now, as Dunlap climbs the stairs to success on the PGA Tour, it seems plausible that LIV may approach him as well.

However, as per the 20-year-old golfer, his dreams do not align with LIV Golf. After winning his first PGA Tour title, Dunlap revealed that his priorities lie within the Tour. The 2024 AmEx champion first cleared the air about LIV Golf contacting him and said, he had not been contacted by them.

Then he stated, “I’ve always grown up dreaming of playing on the PGA Tour” and wanted to create “something special” and “memorable” on the PGA Tour. Regardless of whether LIV makes him a deal or not, it is a no from Dunlap’s side. He would rather play on Tour than on LIV Golf. The 20-year-old golfer came clean and busted any rumors about him joining the breakaway league.

So, if Nick Dunlap does turn pro in the coming months, he has no plans of becoming a LIV Golf member. Dunlap will not be switching the boat anytime soon. The next adventure for Dunlap will start in two days, as he will play the second event on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines.
