Phil Mickelson has been getting quite the spotlight recently. Allegations about his gambling addiction and the subsequent negative consequences have cropped up recently. He has been responding to allegations directly and sometimes subtly, but the buzz seems to die down with each passing day.

The real captain steps in, allegedly

The Twitter handle ‘LIV Golf Insider’ is a verified handle and offers golf updates. In its recent tweet, the page shared a juicy bit of information about Ryder Cup US team captain Zach Johnson being spotted in Chicago, where the current LIV event is about to begin.

The update claims Johnson had dinner with Phil Mickelson and Patrick Reed. The discussions over food involved suggestions and recommendations on handling the battle in Rome. The tweet also mentioned that ‘the real captain’ is helping Johnson with the game plan for next week.

The tweet ends after making another huge claim that “Lefty will have a say in the pairings.” One person in the comment section had a skeptical question. While admitting this is quite the story, the comment asked if other news sources have verified this information.

During the Bedminster event, after he hosted a clinic for the adaptive golfers, Mickelson shared his thoughts on lending his insights to the current US team captain. “I don’t want to get involved, and I don’t want to step on Zach’s toes and tell him what he should or shouldn’t do.”

He said that Johnson must do what he thinks is best for the team. Lefty explained he has enjoyed his shared Ryder Cup experiences, and he is detached now. The 12-time Ryder Cup player said he wanted to be a spectator going forward.

He also suggested that for the captain’s picks, Johnson could go for LIV talents from the roster. Of the list, Johnson picked Brooks Koepka alone.

Considering all this, one wonders if the update could actually be true. But then, the world is a funny place, and people change. Anything could happen!

The sport has a certain calmness to it that attracts me. Much like every golf enthusiast. I, too, have many favorites in the golf world. Max Homa's humor makes me laugh, Rory McIlroy's intensity makes me curious, while Celine Boutier's awkwardness helps me relate more to these athletes and the sport, and Nelly Korda's smile just always mesmerizes me! Hence, diving in depth into all their lives and more is more than a joyous experience.
