Yesterday, the LIV Golf Team Championship took an unexpected turn with the announcement of Legion XIII’s captain, Jon Rahm, withdrawing from the play. This raised concerns about who would take over as captain at such a critical moment. Well, that seems to have been solved now. Enter Tyrrell Hatton!

Legion XIII shared a post on X announcing Jon Rahm has withdrawn from the LIV Golf Team Championship as he developed symptoms of severe flu. The post also revealed that “in the best interest of his team and under the advice of his medical team, he will not be playing this weekend. He will continue to provide full support to his team. John Catlin will be the replacement.” Catlin might be a good option to play instead of the Spaniard, as he has already experienced playing in LIV Golf events as a replacement in Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka‘s teams.

However, the captainship remained a question, and now Tyrrell Hatton is taking this job and currently leading the team in Dallas. Hatton was asked about his thoughts on captainship in the press conference. “I mean, I would have done the same thing if it was Rahmbo out there.” While talking about it, the golfer also added the importance of supporting his team, saying, “As a team, I think you kind of — if the guys are still out there playing, I think it’s important, captain or not, you go out and support the guys.”

In the second singles, Hatton played against Andy Ogletree and defeated him with a 5-4 score. Ogletree won the 2nd and 6th holes; meanwhile, Tyrrell Hatton won on the 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 13th holes. So, far, there are no updates as to when Jon Rahm will come back on the greens, and in the scenario when Legion XIII entered as the second top seed to the tournament, it can be impactful to not have a regular captain. So, how does Hatton plan on dealing with that pressure?

Tyrrell Hatton’s thoughts on the final round of the LIV Golf Team Championship

The stakes are high for the final round of the team championship, with teams competing for the $14 million prize. Despite the pressure and it being his first appearance at the Team Championship, Hatton is staying composed and will be on the first tee in the final round. When asked how he plans to move forward without Jon Rahm, the golfer gave a straightforward response. “To be honest, no. You just have to treat it like another Sunday. Yeah, just go out there and try your best. It’s going to be quite an exciting finish with all four scores counting.”

The English golfer also shed light on how things got monotonous, but they are still looking forward to the final day. “But it was nice for us to get out on the golf course today. Yesterday was a fairly boring day, especially when you’ve been here since Tuesday and you kind of want to get started. Yeah, we’re looking forward to tomorrow.”
