Scottie Scheffler won the 2024 Masters Tournament in style. But now, all eyes are slowly turning towards, if not already on, the next major, which is the PGA Championship and its field. The event will witness a lot of top golfers on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf tee it up at Valhalla Golf Club. As a result, many in the community will naturally be curious about whether Cameron Smith, the captain of the champion team in the last two events on LIV Golf, will play at the same event.

The Smith-led Ripper GC clinched the win at the Saudi-backed league’s event in Adelaide as well as the recently ended one in Singapore. Following his latest win, he was spotted divulging his mindset, all the while alluding to his plans of going into the major championship!

To the question of whether the Aussie would play at the PGA Championship, the answer would be an obvious ‘Yes’. He was visibly sure of himself and his gameplay after the recent team win when asked about the same, and he said, “Yeah, very confident… It felt similar to Adelaide, and couldn’t have wanted a better finish heading into a major,” while referring to the previous win in Australia. The squad led by Smith won the tournament through a playoff against Stinger GC, which they had initially tied with, sharing the same score of 53-under.

Moving on, one can’t help but ask: from where did he get the confidence when the 30-year-old had experienced a hip injury recently? Smith had the answer to that query. “It was nice to get the hip work done on Friday afternoon,” added the LIV Golf Pro before continuing. “I was struggling on Friday, to be honest, and Nick, my physio, did a great job, and the last couple of days it’s felt awesome.”

Now, onto the question of his eligibility. All of this would be for naught if the golfer was not qualified. Well, not to worry, since, as per the rules, winners of the last five Open Championships, the last three PLAYERS Championships, and the top 15 placements and ties from the previous PGA Championship are eligible for the field, all of which he is a part of. He won the Open Championship and the PLAYERS back in 2022 and was also able to finish T9 at the 2023 edition of the major.
