Sahith Theegala did not expect a jibe to be taken at him while he was playing at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. It all started at LIV Golf Adelaide’s second round at The Grange. While the players were busy at the greens, the camera panned to a bunch of Aussie women fans enjoying the music and grooving to it.

The broadcaster, Arlo White, commented on the group and said, “That’s not a granny shack,” seeing a different demographic being attracted to watching golf. In response, a LIV Golf fan criticized the PGA Tour’s golf coverage and shed light on the better side that LIV has, involving a joke about Sahith Theegala.

They not only called out his slow play or rather meticulous style of play at the PGA Tour events but also highlighted the heavy commercial load at many events, which has annoyed golf fans many times. And questioned those who still watch the PGA Tour. The comments under the post read, “Imagine seeing this and going, no thanks Id rather watch Sahith Theegala and the boys play a 6 and a half hour round with 55 commercials.” Theegala, after seeing the comment, replied that why was he being dragged into it unnecessarily? He said, “Damn I’m out here catching a stray for no reason.” 

Many loved the hilarious response of Theegala on the internet. While they laughed with him, they also made sure to cheer him up and explain how they would prefer to watch Theegala rather than LIV Golf events any day.

Sahith Theegala gets the support of the golf world 

Over the years, Sahith Theegala has grown a solid fan base, which will come to his support whenever required. And this time, it was like no other. This fan didn’t like any shacks being compared to Theegala’s gameplay, regardless of how people took it, as they loved to watch him play. Hoping to watch Theegala again on the Tour, they said, “My man, ain’t no comparisons needed. I just get a kick out of your style. Love it and catch you out on tour soon!”

This user did not care about whether people liked to watch Theegala or not. They were happy always catching his rounds, whether it took 6 hours or not, and even though Theegala has not won any majors and at Masters this year he ended at T45 with a 9 over score, the fan is ready to cheer the pro on when he wins his maiden major. Reassuring the 1-time PGA Tour winner, they said, “Their loss big dog! Been watching your 6 hour rounds for the last few years, and will be watching when you grab that first major.”

These days, the pros do not leave any shade taken at them alone and when they are disrespected, one can expect a savage reply, and rightfully so. Anthony Kim did it savagely to a hater recently, though Theegala’s response wasn’t as brutal as Kim’s. This sure still liked it, exclaiming, “Awesome comeback! (And I’d rather watch you.)”

Did the original commenter ever watch Theegala’s round? This user doubted it. Because if they did, then they would not call him out for a slow play, which Theegala rarely does. The fan concluded that he was only compared to the granny shack because they “Clearly hasn’t seen you [Theegala] play.” 

Replying to why many still watch the PGA Tour, this viewer answered it with a unique perspective. They stated that there are two types of audiences in the golf world, one interested in purely golf and the other focused on other things and that’s why many still choose the PGA Tour. They added, “Some people watch golf because they want to actually watch golf, not use it as an excuse to watch extra curriculars.”
