In recent years, there has been immense growth in the LPGA Tour. The competition, skill, and prize money have taken a hike thanks to new talents in the Ladies’ Professional Golf. Despite that, some golfers are still struggling to find air time on NBC’s Golf Channel. Nonetheless, the Tour’s former golfers and a Hall of Famer have called out the broadcasting channel for their unequal allotment of air time.

After three long years, the International Crown is currently taking place at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California. While the biennial event marked enticing competition among golfers of different nations for $2 million prize money, the broadcast triggered many golfers and fans on the internet.

Since the event’s commencement on May 4th, Golf Channel has largely focused on covering the American Team and the England Team. Though the competition also has teams from six other countries, NBC seems to have prioritized the US and English teams. And this triggered many, including LPGA Hall of Famer Karrie Webb who sarcastically trolled the broadcaster for their biased coverage towards the two teams.

Is there any other countries besides Team US and Team England playing in the International Crown??”, tweeted the Australian golfer. Following the 7-time Major winner jibe at the Golf Channel, her former colleague Alena Sharp also joined in on the criticism towards the broadcaster. The Canadian golfer shared her emotions by writing, ‘Very sad coverage’.

While Team USA, which consists of Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, Lilia Vu, and Danielle Kang, has flourished at the International Crown by reaching the Semifinals, the English team has been knocked out of the event after only securing one win in six matches. Despite their poor form, Golf Channel continued to display their matches and ignore the broadcast of qualified teams such as Thailand, Sweden, and Australia.

For this, the media channel was not only scrutinized by the LPGA legends but even the fans had issues with Golf Channel. Let’s take a look at what they had to say.

Golf world is unimpressed with Golf Channel

After Karrie Webb shared her dismay with the Golf Channel, many others followed the Australian golfer in criticizing the media outlet. LPGA star, Marina Alex, chimed in too. She labeled the coverage of International Crown as ‘unbearable’ while another user suggested it was ‘disappointing’ from NBC.

More fans shared their hardcore reactions by questioning the coverage’s priority towards the American golfers.

Though the Golf Channel had lesser coverage for other teams apart from the Americans, they will have no choice but to broadcast Team Australia, Team Thailand, and Team Sweden on Sunday. Either way, hopefully, future events will receive a much broader coverage by the network, and such disappointments will be avoided.
