For years, LPGA and its players have made an effort to grow the tour. With countless events lined up, many believe the LPGA Tour is finally getting the recognition it deserves. However, with the LIV Golf Series announcements made, players seem a bit unhappy with the overall timing.

The Saudi-backed league has been the talk of the town for a long time, with fans and experts constantly debating about it. As a result, the list of players being announced right before the Women’s US Open might be unfavorable. It takes away focus from the LPGA event, as most people discuss Dustin Johnson and other stars playing the LIV series.

In a recent tweet, Marina Alex spoke about the same, while being visibly bothered about the field announcement.

Why is LPGA star Marina Alex unhappy about the LIV announcement?

Alex was mostly sarcastic about the LIV golf announcement, probably unamused at the timing. The US Open is a major for the LPGA Tour, offering up a $10 million purse. It is a major upgrade from the $5.5 million offered in 2021, exciting everyone. Furthermore, the winner would be taking home a whopping $1.8 million.

Amanda Rose and Jason Sobel also tweeted about the same, with many hoping that the attention would actually stay on the US Open for some time.

When is the women’s US Open?

The women’s US Open will be taking place from June 2 at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, and Ko Jin-young will all be playing, raising the stakes for the LPGA Major.

Additionally, the $10 million purse is also the most ever in LPGA history.

This will also be the last tournament for LPGA icon Michelle Wie West, who will retire after the US Open. West won the tournament back in 2014 and will look to win and retire on a high note.

Of course, most bets are placed on Korda and Jin-young, both of whom are hailed as LPGA superstars. Yuka Saso will be coming back as defending champion, hopeful about a back-to-back triumph.
