2023 is almost one month away, and every sport is wrapping up with its season-end event. The CME Group Tour Championship is the season-end event of the LPGA tour. However, the match was earlier called CME Group Titleholders, from 2011 to 2013. And this time, it has great importance because of the increased purse of the tournament.

The tournament started on November 17 and will continue till November 20. This week is a crucial week for players as the reward money is a vast amount. The prize money, however, is less than the whopping $10 million offered this summer at the U.S. Women’s Open.

It was a record prize money amount for the LPGA tour. However, the purse set is more than the prize money of $1.8 million, which Minjee Lee bagged at Pine Needles. Let’s find out more about the tournament.

Details of the 2022 CME Group Tour Championship

This year the tournament is headed by Jin Young Ko, Lydia Ko, Sei Young Kim, and more LPGA players. CME Championship is the 33rd event of the LPGA tour of 2022, which is also the last event of the year for women’s golf. Sixty players on the field are fighting for the prize money and title. However, according to the standard practice on the LPGA Tour, there is no cut to the top 70 golfers; there will be ties post 36 holes.

Lydia Ko won the championship in 2014, followed by Cristie Kerr and former number one Ariya Jutanugarn as winners in 2015 and 2017, respectively. However, South Korean female golfer Jin Young Ko won the 2020 and 2021 CME Group Tour Championship. Throughout the season of the LPGA, these golfers, along with others on tour, compete in the Race to the CME Globe.

Purse and prize money breakdown

The purse amount of this year’s CME Group Tour Championship is set for  $7 million. However, the winner’s prize was not equal to the original 15% payout, according to the LPGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart. The $2 million set for the winner of the championship is 28.57% of the overall purse of $7 million.

The LPGA pro golfers compete all year to reserve one of the coveted 60 berths in the CME Group Tour Championship. Therefore, finally, these ladies are ready to win again. Currently, Lydia Ko is at the top of the leaderboard. Now time will tell who will be the lucky one to take $2 million home.
