The sports world is full of superstitions. Players have their pre-game routine, coaches have their beliefs that bring good luck, and sometimes even the spectators have their own superstitious regime.

Each sport has its own belief systems that closely reflect something on their field. While several sportspeople love to keep their lucky attire or accessory close by, maybe do a few rounds of the same activity for good luck, Olympic Gold Medalist Nelly Korda shared her very own superstition on the golf course.

The Amundi Evian Championship is underway and in the last 54 holes, Nelly Korda pushed herself forward to the top 10 with her lowest score. With the last 18 holes that will determine the winner, the American golfer shared her personal feelings at the Rolex event with a reporter.

When asked what superstitions, if any, she has, Korda smiled and started nodding before the question was complete. She confessed, “I have a couple.” She was only willing to “give away” one of them which is her three-tee system. “I always have to have three tees in my hair,” she explained. “Once I break ’em all, then I can put three tees back into my hair.” She also added that her caddie is aware of this superstition and hands her three tees to get her started.

‘For the Girls Golf’ co-owner Cailyn Henderson shared Korda’s superstition along with the gameplay at the Evian Resort Golf Club for the last 18 holes on her Instagram story. Korda wasn’t reluctant to share her pattern. She strongly believes in it. Given that the 8-time LPGA winner has several accolades to her name including an Olympic Gold Medal, perhaps her superstition works for her.

Nelly Korda’s gameplay since the surgery

The younger Korda sister had an unfortunate revelation early last year when she learned that she had a blood clot in her left arm. She shared the news with her fans along with undergoing surgery in order to tackle the issue before it caused any permanent damage.

Since the operation, Nelly Korda has returned to the golf course but the former no. 1 golfer has not been at her best. In the 2022-23 season, she suffered several setbacks, including missing the cut at the PGA Championship, an event where she was a returning champion from 2021.

The golfer also landed in ranks below T50 at most of the events. She did make it into third place at the Chevron Championship but since then her luck hasn’t been favorable. That was till she claimed the individual title at the Aramco Team Series. At the Evian Championship, she pushed herself hard enough to bridge the gap considerably in round 3. Maybe her superstition will help improve her deliverables through the rest of the season so she can once again rise to the horizon of the best player ranks.
