The third round of the Meijer LPGA Classic saw South Korea’s Amy Yang surge to the top of the leaderboard after a highly impressive outing at Michigan’s Blythefield Country Club. With the tournament entering its final day and several other golfing heavyweights on her heels, Yang would definitely want not to think about her past woes.

The 33-year-old, despite achieving considerable success in the LPGA, is yet to script her first win on American soil. On Sunday, the golfer will get another golden chance to turn things around. But what is Yang’s mantra ahead of the big day? Let’s dive in to find out more!

Since joining the LPGA Tour in 2008, Amy Yang has witnessed memorable triumphs in Asia. In 2013, she clinched the LPGA KEB-HanaBank in her native South Korea, impressing many. In the following years, the golfer managed to lift the Honda LPGA Thailand trophy a whopping three times in 2015, 2017, and 2019!

Unfortunately for Yang, she has not been able to replicate these performances in the USA. But things can very well change soon. Yang, who had finished T4 at the Chevron Championship earlier this year, shot a 5-under 67 during the Meijer LPGA Classic’s third round to take a one-shot lead at the top. This was also the golfer’s third-straight 67 in the competition.

So, how important is it for the golfer to win in the US? “I won four times but they were all over in Asia,” she told the press on Saturday. “I want to, and I’ll just keep trying my best.” Yang further stressed that she wants to keep her cool despite the hair-raising action that awaits her.

What I like to do is try to be calm out there instead of like get too excited and go for it,” said the World No. 56. “I want to be more calm, enjoying every hole, and just do my best.” Sunday’s final round promises great thrill to fans, especially after a great tussle between top-placed players on day three.

Yang leads in the LPGA Tour event with others in contention

On Saturday, LPGA Tour’s Amy Yang birdied seven holes and overcame bogeys on par-3 11th, and 13th to put together 15-under 201 at Blythefield. Not too far behind Yang are golfers Ayaka Furue, Ashleigh Buhai, and Lin Xiyu. The golfers finished their third round at 14-under to tie for second place. Buhai, who won the ShopRite LPGA Classic just days ago, entered the round four strokes back of the lead. The 2-time LPGA Tour then went on to make five birdies and an eagle with only one bogey.

Meanwhile, Ariya Jutanugarn, Hyo Joo Kim, and Leona Maguire are tied for fifth place at 13-under. With several players at 11-under or better, the Meijer LPGA Classic trophy is there for the taking on Sunday!

This year, the event boasts a prize purse of $2.5 million, out of which the winner will get to take home an incredible $375,000. With the year’s second major drawing near, the competing golfers will definitely want to end their run at the event on a memorable note.
