A painful saga: Lexi Thompson and slow-play

LPGA pro Lexi Thompson was ahead with a two-shot lead at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship when she was fined $2,000 for slow play. Apart from that, she lost the title, and a gloomy regret of all the missed putts also engulfed her.

Solheim Cup spectators have also expressed a similar concern and hope to avoid slow play on Sunday. One even took to Twitter to cite the problem during the Saturday morning foursomes. “…this morning at the Solheim Cup. 2.5 hours to play the front 9 in foursomes is snails pace.”

Perhaps Lexi Thompson can answer their question about what can be done to improve at slow play if she manages to avoid that on the final day at Finca Cortesin. Her form was problematic before her gameplay in Spain, but she has recovered from that with twin victories in foursomes. But on the final day, she’ll be up against the European tigress.

America’s lead on Day 1 hit the European team hard, but one of the players took it under her chin. Denmark’s Emily Pedersen recovered during the afternoon fourballs on Friday and carded the only second hole-in-one at the Solheim Cup.
