The CME Group Tour Championship, the LPGA Tour season-end tournament, will begin on November 17 at the Tiburon Golf Club. After reclaiming her world no. 1 position after last week’s victory, Nelly Korda is one of the potential candidates to win the mega event. However, the American golfer doesn’t consider the rankings can help her get an easy victory this week like her PGA Tour counterparts.

“Every week is a different test,” Korda told the media before the Tour Championship. “Doesn’t matter if you’re number 1 in the world or 60th this week,” she added. “Everyone has a fair chance.”

“You don’t get any strokes going into this event because of your rank tier,” she added further. “So, we will see how it goes.”

Notably, the qualified players can begin with a head start on the PGA Tour’s Tour Championship event according to their FedEx Cup rankings. While the no. 1 player on the FedEx Cup point standing will get a start with 10-under in their score, the players ranking between 26 to 30 will get an even par.

Even though female golfers can earn CME Globe Points in each LPGA Tour event according to their leaderboard positions, no such head starts are given to them if they top the standings. The points are only there to determine which player gets to play in the CME Tour Championship.

Furthermore, the LPGA Tour doesn’t give special consideration or a head start to its players for their Rolex World Rankings. Korda, the world no. 1 player at the moment, is in the top 15 on the CME points list. However, none can help her get an advantage over the other players and easily win the $2 million from the $7 million purse.

Has Nelly Korda ever won a Tour Championship?

Only 1 to 60 ranking players on the CME Globe Points standings can play in the season-end LPGA Tour event. And Korda could play in every Tour Championships since her rookie year (2017). However, she has yet to win one.

“Ever since my rookie year, I’ve had a good couple of finishes out here,” she said ahead of the 2022 Tour Championship. “I’ve been close; I have never gotten into the finish line.”

In 2017, Korda got an 8T place in the event. And she finished with her personal best in 2018, a solo second. Notably, she was only ranked outside the top 10 once in her career, in 2020, when she finished with a 19T.
