The LPGA Tour has stopped in the Republic of China for the next stop of its Asian Swing after an explicable game in Singapore. Many Tour pros like Lilia Vu, Celine Boutier, and Lydia Ko have returned to Jian Lake Blue Bay GC. However, after an ordinary round one, the world number will no longer be seen on the greens of Jian Lake.

The 26-year-old pro has been struggling with back issues and her overall health was declining as she withdrew from the HSBC Women’s World Championship last week. It seems that the illness has not left Vu’s side just yet.

Before the Friday round was initiated at the Jian Lake Blue Bay GC, the LPGA Tour Media posted a tweet announcing that Lilia Vu had withdrawn from the event citing an injury; the extent of the injury was not revealed. Vu had played round one and was struggling with every other hole, as she could only make a par score of 72.

Vu made four birdies and four bogeys in her opening round and was expected to have a fine run but that prediction has been met with a hurdle. Before teeing up at the Blue Bay, the 4-time LPGA Tour winner explained that last week her body “wasn’t feeling great overall physically and it was just Sunday that I couldn’t handle,” said Vu.

However, she was hopeful that at Jian Lake, she would regroup and “have a good week this week.”However, fate had something else stored in for the LPGA Pro as she withdrew from two back-to-back events Last week, Vu withdrew from the fourth round after playing the 13th hole. This time, the injury might have aggravated as she exited way early.

The LPGA Tour events in Asia have been bound by many withdrawals. Last week, at the HSBC Women’s World Championship, three pros stepped back from the event. This time around, before Vu turned her withdrawal in, two more pros had already signed off from the Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club.

After playing the first round at the Blue Bay LPGA, In Gee Chun abruptly withdrew as she struggled with an injury that is yet unbeknownst. Chun had played relatively better at the Women’s World Championship, as she posted a T22 after finishing T63 at the LPGA Drive On Championship. The South Korean will be missing the rest of the rounds and she won’t be the only one doing so.

Veteran LPGA Tour pro Jenny Shin also exited the Jian Lake GC during her first round. Shin had started her round one from the back nine and after posting 2 over the nine holes, the 31-year-old chose to withdraw from the event without explaining the reason behind it. But it could have been that the 1x LPGA Tour winner was struggling with her game.
