The Chevron Championship field is set and just three days away! With a brilliant field of 132 players including decorated names such as 2016 winner Lydia Ko, and the World #1 Nelly Korda, the competition will be enthralling. The first major championship of the 2024 LPGA Tour season will start on April 17th and will be played until the 21st at The Club at Carlton Woods. The LPGA pros will be competing for a purse of $5,200,000. But Lydia Ko has something higher on stake!

With her 20 tournament titles and two major wins, could also move closer to the LPGA Hall of Fame. With her 2016 Chevron Championship victory, Ko became the youngest two-time major winner in LPGA history, where she closed with a final-round bogey-free at 69. The New Zealander is now ready to grab her first major title of the year at the Chevron Championship.

The 26-year-old began the year ranked 12th in the world after a difficult 2023 in which she often struggled to make a cut. A first-place finish at the LPGA Tour Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and a runner-up spot in the LPGA Drive-On Championship this year made her rise to 8th place in the World Rolex Ranking.

Later, she finished at T34 in the HSBC Women’s World Championship, at T4 at the Blue Bay LPGA in China, and at T13 at the Ford Championship. Ko has also appeared in a T-Mobile match but couldn’t make it to the top and ended at T18.

In 2022, she ended her tournament at T25, wherein she shot 1 over in the last round, and 4 under, overall. Last year, Ko failed to make it to the weekend at the championship with an overall score of 3 over. This year, Ko will have to bring a lot more energy, and skills, to make do with her compatriots.

Other than Ko, there will be many prominent names in the tournament vying for the glory of a major win. The competition will be furious, and so will the rivals.

Is Korda the most uncompromising contender at Carlton Woods?

The 26-year-old is eyeing the Dinah Shore Trophy while facing some of the best players in the world, including the defending champion of the Chevron Championship, Lilia Vu, Lexi Thompson, and the unstoppable Nelly Korda. Korda has a history of beating the New Zealander on the course, which will make this competition even more difficult for the LPGA Tour player.

In addition to that, four of Korda’s 10 career titles have come in the playoffs, and she’s now beaten her good friend “Lyds” in two of them. The golfer has already displayed tremendous potential through her consecutive victories on the LPGA Tour. However, Ko is already aware of this and must be fully prepared to face such fierce competition and repeat the history of 2016.
