The Supreme Court of the United States overturning Roe vs Wade has been creating significant changes in the life of the people of America. It has been only a couple of days since the event happened. Yet, the LPGA Tour, the American golf organization for women, has already revealed its stance on the rule.

“As the best golfers in the world compete for the third Major championship of the year against the backdrop of the U.S. capital,” the statement from the LPGA read. “We are concerned by the issues facing the country in the wake of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision.”

“…this decision now places important women’s rights in the hand of state lawmakers,” the organization notified through the statement. “The LPGA is committed to this conversation and hopes we all strive for outcomes that ensure equality for women.”

Golf.com’s Zephyr Melton shared the statement the organization released regarding the SCOTUS overturned Roe vs Wade situation. Notably, the PGA Championship was being held during the verdict and the organization’s statement release.

The 2022 PGA Championship

The Congressional Country Club hosted the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship this year. It is the third major championship of the season.

After an intense battle, the South Korean golfer In Gee Chun won the tournament title with a 1-shot lead. Notably, she carded her career-best score, 64, in the first round. After the first two rounds, she was leading the field with a 6-shot lead.

However, her 75s in the last two rounds made way for the other golfers to challenge In Gee Chun. Minjee Lee and Lexi Thompson, the T2 position holders, could have snatched her title away if not for her performance in the first two rounds. Notably, Minjee Lee is the 2022 U.S. Open champion.

What’s next for the LPGA Tour players? 

The LPGA players have 18 more events to prove their worth this season. This includes two more majors; the Amundi Evian Championship and the AIG Women’s Open.

Following the PGA Championship, the women golfers will have a week free of events. After a week’s rest, the golf organization will have a packed schedule, beginning the from the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. The event begins on July 13.
