Women, in all sectors, are known to face unequal pay for an equal amount of work. It stems from the clutch holds of patriarchy. This is the sad reality of the sports world on a whole. However, in a recent attempt, the LPGA has made moves in the direction to grow the game as well as remove this structural inequality involved.
In a recent announcement, the Ladies’ Tour has declared a purse of over $100 million for the 2023 LPGA Tour. This is a significant raise from the previous years.

As is known, the 2022 LPGA purse record prize money was approaching $90 million. The increase of over $10 million dollars is a huge one, and will definitely grow Women’s golf.
It is high time we realize that it is so much harder for women in the world of sports to prove their worth. Proper institutional setup is the bare minimum that can be provided in order to make both the Tours stand on an equal pedestal.
Is the LPGA achieving the best of its potential?
As the problem of inadequate streaming of the events of the LPGA Tour continues, its potential for growth drops. This has been brought to light, time and again, by multiple players involved with the LPGA, including famous names like Jessica Korda.
The major problem is that of investment and the use of adequate technology when it comes to the broadcasting of women’s games. The disparity in pay is also not a hidden reality no one can deny.

Recently, Lisa Cornwell criticized the Ladies’ Professional Golf Association for its inability to achieve the growth it potentially could.
She blamed the current TV contract being the reason why LPGA’s growth is stifled. According to her, the LPGA needs a network partner that empathizes with the motto LPGA stands for and gives it the right spot in media.
She said, “The LPGA Tour will never grow the way it could (or should) with this current TV contract. It’s stifling the women’s game.”
