Lexi Thompson’s form was questioned when she made it to the Solheim Cup team this year. She wasn’t the captain’s pick, but she qualified based on her world ranking. That didn’t stop some fans from being skeptical. However, her performance at the Solheim Cup and the subsequent Arkansas event proved her golf prowess once again.

Recently, she joined the elite cohort of women who have been invited to play with the PGA Tour pros at the Shriners Children’s Open. Lexi Thompson sounded excited at a press conference about the opportunity. Looking deeper into the conversation, it would appear that there is a special reason she is enthusiastic about it.

The real reason Lexi Thompson is excited about the Shriners

The question focused on whether Lexi Thompson dreamed of competing on the PGA Tour. And it touched upon how long she has had that dream. Thompson started off by mentioning how she grew up with her two brothers and their friends.

She reminisced about the way she played alongside the guys. Her brothers play golf too. She then got to answer the question directly. She mentioned how it’s not exactly been her dream to play on the PGA Tour, but she wanted to.

Thompson again spoke about the experience of playing alongside the guys and how this would be a great adventure. “Can’t say I go day to day wanting to do it, but I’m very honored for this,” she added.

Nicholas Thompson, a graduate of Georgia Tech back in 2005 with a business management degree, went pro and snagged his PGA Tour card for the 2006 season. Then in 2007, he made waves by clinching the HSBC New Zealand PGA Championship on the Nationwide Tour.

For Nicholas Thompson, 2008 was a standout year, with him racking up six top-10 finishes. But the real spotlight moment came in 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, where he made a strong fourth-place finish.

Not a lot of information is available online about Curtis, apart from his player profile on the PGA Tour website. The profile has some personal information about him. It says that, if not a golfer, Curtis would probably be a motivational speaker.

Growing up with two professional golfer brothers at home was probably a fun experience for Lexi Thompson. Hopefully, she can see glimpses of that excitement in the Shriners coming up.
