The stars and fans share a unique relationship, especially when sports are involved. The reasons why anyone would support a particular player are numerous. They might range from the passion one has for the game to the respect one has for the sportsperson for their unparalleled characteristics. The same applies to the club-and-ball sport of golf.

Just like any other game, golf cannot thrive without its fan community. However, sometimes this ultimate passion for a golf professional or their game can become a little too much to handle. This can lead to drastic actions from golfers who might not be comfortable with the intensity of it all. Something similar happened just hours ago, with an LPGA star taking a massive step online against one of her biggest fans!

The 2022 LPGA Drive-On Champion recently wrapped up her tournament in Nevada after being knocked out in the semi-finals. Leona Maguire played well in the 2023 Bank of Hope LPGA event but ultimately lost to Ayaka Furue. Not so surprisingly! Fans and experts covered the exciting match thoroughly.

One of the fans who ardently followed the Leona’s matchplay was a Twitter account named Leona Maguire Tracker. While this may not be odd, what was surprising about the situation was what followed after the semi-finals! The Irish LPGA star blocked the Twitter account that was seen continuously reporting on the Maguire vs. Furue game.

The fan account tweeted, “This is a shock 🥲We love you Leona. I’ll keep supporting you always 💪.” This, of course, meant that the account would no longer be able to view the golfer’s tweets or follow her activity on the platform! But why did the LPGA pro take this drastic measure? Perhaps we can shed some light on that too.

The possible reason behind the unexpected blocking of the fan account

Seemingly, the Irish LPGA star has not made any official statement as to why this massive step was taken. It sure was out of the blue for one of Leona’s biggest fan accounts to get blocked by its icon. However, things aren’t as clear as they appear. Earlier during the semi-final match-play, Leona Maguire Tracker had strong verbal commentary going on Twitter regarding the 28-year-old golfer. The comments included:

It might be that the intention of the individual was not to demotivate the golfer but simply to report the on-course activity. Although it sometimes leads to pressure and gives way to negativity, Ultimately, it is the golfer who has to take the shot on the field. And comments like these might not prove helpful during a crucial moment.

However, it is also important to note that the fan account did not back down from admitting that it would try to “be better” the next time.

While undoubtedly hopes of the LPGA star noticing the love of her biggest fan for her game are high in the golf world, her choice behind the decision is also completely understandable. Many can resonate with the fervent emotions that a pro golfer goes through, and of course, everyone has their own way of dealing with things.
