A shocking decision from the China Golf Association shook all the LPGA fans. According to the news, the female golf tour will return to Hainan Island in 2024. Then what about this season? Will LPGA golfers have yet to showcase their talents at this year’s Blue Bay tournament?

The days have been getting darker for the female golf tour. First, they had to suffer the loss of Kathy Whitworth, the legendary female golfer. Later, they had to face massive discomfort at Lake Nona due to the absence of lockers. However, things started getting smoother until this news hit the golf fans.

No Blue Bay LPGA for golfers in 2023?

The postponed event had a $2.1 million prize pool and was supposed to be the third and final leg of an Asian swing. It also included tournaments in Thailand and Singapore. According to the LPGA 2023 schedule released in November last year, 33 sanctioned events had two events in China and a record-breaking $101.4 million total prize pool. The Buick LPGA Shanghai is the second competition scheduled for October 13–15. Hopefully, that won’t be postponed.

From 2014 through 2018, Blue Bay was part of the LPGA Tour, with Gaby Lopez of Mexico as the last champion. However, in 2019 or 2022, it was not scheduled for the female golf tour, but they postponed it twice because of the pandemic.

Regarding other Asian events, the last edition of the World Golf Championships HSBC Champions in Shanghai occurred in 2019. The Volvo China Open was last featured on the European tour in 2022; however, that event was postponed. And now, this year, history seems to repeat itself.

However, this might come as a relief for the golfers. The golf enthusiasts criticized the hectic travel schedule of the LPGA. According to them, it was way elaborate, and too much traveling was involved. With this event being postponed, the golfers might have time to rest and practice more for the next scheduled event. The golfers are preparing for the Honda LPGA Thailand, occurring February 23-23.
