Earlier this year, LPGA star Nelly Korda made quite an impression at the Chevron Championship, finishing solo third at the tournament. But, in the two majors that followed, Korda failed to live up to her star billing as she registered forgettable performances at both Baltusrol and Pebble Beach.

This week, however, at the Evian Resort Golf Club, the World No. 2 has beautifully turned things around. And, her recent feat at the Centurion Club in London may have something to do with that. Let’s dive in to find out more!

Nelly Korda has had quite a year so far. In her first eight starts on the LPGA Tour in 2023, Korda finished in the top-10 six times, losing out on some titles by just mere inches. But her back-related struggles also came to the fore, resulting in her having to take some time away from the game.

Her much-anticipated comeback at last month’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship didn’t go as planned either as she ended up missing the cut. This was followed by a disappointing T64 finish at the 2023 US Women’s Open. But, those unfortunate times seem to be finally over as Korda is currently a hot favorite to lift the Evian Championship trophy!

After smashing a bogey-free round of 64 on Saturday, Korda spoke to the press about how her win at the recently-concluded Aramco Team Series in London has helped boost her form. “I think London was really big,” she confessed. “I’ve been practicing a lot on my swing.

The golfer also reflected on her turbulent season, saying, “I think after the injury, it’s funny, the game is just crazy — the game of golf is just crazy. It’s like one day you’re just like autoing top 10s and then the next day you don’t know how to make a cut, make a putt.” At the end of round 3, Korda tied for the 5th spot, five shots behind 56 holes leader Celine Boutier.

After a disappointing showing at Pebble Beach earlier this month, Nelly Korda jetted off to London for the Aramco Team Series event, which ultimately proved to be a turning point for the Olympic gold medallist. At the tournament, Korda claimed her first win of the year after besting England’s Charley Hull by 4 shots!

The $75,000 win has clearly done wonders for Korda’s confidence as she shot a 7-under 64 at the Evian Championship on Saturday. It was also her lowest round of the season. To win the second major of her career, Korda will have to overcome challenges from the likes of Celine Boutier, Brooke Henderson, Minjee Lee, and more. Boutier, who is playing on her home soil, had a three-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard after carding rounds of 66-69-70.

This year, the Evian Championship has a prize purse of $6.5 million, out of which the winner stands to take home an incredible $1 million.
