Ahead of the final round, Thompson met with someone who sees her play at the Ascendant. There are many things that make this fan stand out for her. One of them is that she is an adorable little kid, and Thompson is all about the kids. But there is more to this kid, though.

How did Lexi Thompson meet fangirl Nora?

The girl, Nora, had worn a pink shirt that said ‘My dream is to be inside the ropes’ as she posed for a picture with Lexi Thompson at the Old American Golf Club in Texas. The shirt and the girl have a history with Lexi Thompson.

Last year, in an event that Thompson played in, she met Nora. The kid had the same shirt then, too. Or perhaps another similar shirt. The point is, it said the same thing, about being inside the ropes.

The Florida-born golfer spoke fondly of the girl later. “She is just so cute.” Speaking of her shirt, Thompson said, “Pretty sure she meant she wants to play one day out here. But I was like ‘Let’s just bring her on in.’ Had a nice little chat with her.”

The 28-year-old golfer, when speaking of Nora last year, also joked about how the girl made Thompson look bad. “She was like ‘I’ve won all these tournaments’ and everything, and I was like ‘Alright, making me look bad out here.’”

This little reunion is not the only surprise Lexi Thompson has received of late. She also recently received an invitation to play in the Shriners Children’s Open, which is a PGA Tour event. Thompson has received an exemption for the all-male event and it’s commonly considered an honor in the golf world.

Coming back to the Ascendant, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner is currently in great form. She played well in the Solheim Cup and kept her form in the Arkansas event that followed. She is doing even better at the Ascendant this week.

At the Old American Golf Club in Texas, Lexi Thompson started the tournament with an even par in the first round, with two bogeys and two birdies. She shot for the moon in the second with seven birdies and one bogey to set off.

She sustained a 6-under after the third round, where she suffered four bogeys that negated her four birdies. Despite the poor third round, her brilliant play in the second round has kept her up high on the leaderboard.

She currently shares the second position with Aussie Sarah Kemp, while Korean golfer Hyo Joo Kim leads the board with her impressive 11-under from the three rounds in total.

Looks like it will be uphill for the golf veteran going forward. After the skepticism she faced after qualifying for the Solheim Cup, it must be refreshing for her to stay on top of her form in the past month. Hopefully, she will continue to experience the fruits of her toil!
