After being done and dusted with the 2023 KPMG PGA Championship last month, women’s golf is heading toward its next major, the US Women’s Open, which kicks off Thursday at Pebble Beach. The US Women’s Open, one of the most well-known competitions in women’s golf, consistently draws a field of top-notch competitors. One could say that for many golfers this is their best opportunity to establish their legacies.
This time, the venue is very adventurous and is already buzzing with a lot of excitement. After hosting the men’s championship six times, Pebble Beach will be hosting the women’s event for the first time which has got the participants all excited.
The competitive field at the 2023 US Women’s Open

Due to the involvement of the top players on the LPGA Tour, the tournament is poised to captivate the audience with exciting clashes. Players, who enter through qualifying events and those who are exempt make up the field for the US Women’s Open. In all, there are 156 participants who will take the field on Thursday.
Numerous elite athletes are competing, including Ruoning Yin, the 2023 Women’s PGA Championship winner. Michelle Wie West, the 2014 US Open champion, will also compete in what is probably her last professional event.

The legendary Annika Sorenstam is also part of the field. Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, and Jin Young Ko will also be seen on the greens. Defending champion Minjee Lee is also in the fray and will look to make back-to-back wins.

The major will also be the first women’s competition to use the ShotLink scoring, which is another reason why this event so special.

The competition’s prize pool is quite big. The major’s prize pool is a massive $11 million. Along with the trophy, the winner will receive a $2,000,000 check.
