“This isn’t just about leading a sports organization — it’s about redefining what’s possible. This role is deeply personal to me — not just as a professional opportunity, but as a chance to make a difference in the world and create new opportunities for others.” These are the wise yet aggressive words from the 10th LPGA commissioner, Craig Kessler, who replaced Liz Moore in the interim role.  Bringing his extensive experience in leading the PGA of America and Buff City Soap, the Harvard alum is all set to contribute to the LPGA’s 75-year-long growth journey in the most fruitful manner. Now, it’s not just the commissioner who is all pumped up for his new tenure, but players and even his fellow leadership team are just as excited.

After Kessler’s appointment, Vicki Goetze-Ackerman, president of the LPGA Tour, shared, “There was not one person who met Craig in this process that wasn’t wowed.” After working with a 30,000-member organization, he is now among the leaders of women’s golf. But it is not just a change; it is an appraisal of the exceptional work that Kessler has done in the past. In the recent conversation with the Golf Channel, Kessler shared about the calls and messages that he got bombarded with.

When asked, “What have you heard from the players at large so far? How excited are they about your appointment?” He shared with joy, “They are all in man.” The golfers on the LPGA Tour have earlier commented on uniformity and inclusivity within the PGA Tour and other big leagues, and now with having a leader who was associated with the PGA of America, it shows a prominent sign to the players as well. Adding to it, he said, “I have to tell you the text messages, the phone calls I’ve gotten; they leave me humbled and excited about the future.”

Kessler could not help but praise the LPGA pros’ determination. “I’ll tell you, from the conversations I’ve had with the players, they are deeply, deeply passionate about this organization, and they’re committed to doing their part to help tell the story, and I think when, again, I mentioned a minute ago, the world hears the stories about these players and they realize their passion for the game, uh, people will fall in love,” he said.

With the enthusiasm to improve golf’s future and players’ confidence in Kessler, this might be the big start of the new role after Mollie Marcoux stepped away from the position with three and a half years of growth-filled tenure.

The newly appointed commissioner has already made his intentions clear with the role, and they are big.

Craig Kessler hints at his plans with the LPGA Tour

Kessler hopes to bring a change that will be beneficial for the league, as Marcoux earlier intended to improve the Tour’s visibility. With the joint effort of the team and players, it has turned out well so far, with the LPGA’s purse increasing. This season, the female tour is offering a record-breaking purse of $131 million. Now, with Kessler’s plan, things would only be better.

After his appointment, he shared, “Holy smokes, something magical is happening at that organization, and I have to be a part of it.” Having notable progress in the league will invite more people to participate and join the journey, and as a team player with 30,000-plus members earlier. The new commissioner is aiming to build an army of professionals at the LPGA Tour.

Having some strong statements, the commissioner has already set the hopes high. What are your thoughts on the new appointment? Share with us in the comments below.
