No one’s prime can go on forever. The same is the case with the two pro golfers, Dustin Johnson and Anthony Kim. Recently, the two became the victims of golf fans’ criticism on social media without even doing anything. Remember when Kim was considered one of the brightest young stars in golf until injuries blighted his progress and then mystery surrounded him as the years went by and he never returned?

Once ranked sixth in the world, winning three times on the PGA Tour between 2008 and 2010, and finishing third at the Masters in 2010, as well as playing on the US Ryder Cup team, he finally decided to come back to professional golf when he signed a deal with the Saudi-backed tour and played in their events in Jeddah and Hong Kong.
Speaking of Dustin Johnson, he won a LIV Golf Las Vegas and finished inside the top 10 in two LIV Golf events; in more than half of the breakaway league’s events, he had finished outside the top 20.
Where both are in places in terms of career, the two of them seemingly have a connection between them. According to Golf.com, a source familiar with LIV Golf informed us that the PIF-funded company began contract discussions with Anthony Kim even though initially LIV Golf was not interested in Kim’s return. But it was the 24-time PGA Tour winner who persuaded the breakaway league to sign Anthony Kim, as he was sure of Kim’s potential on the greens. But lately, the two came into the headlines owing to the Saudi-backed league.
In a post shared by LIV Golf on its official X handle (formerly known as Twitter), they posted an interrogation regarding the twenty-four-time PGA Tour winner and the three-time PGA Tour winner: “Who would want to see @DJohnsonPGA and @AnthonyKim_Golf play a 1v1 9 hole YouTube match?

Anthony Kim might not be able to play golf like he used to do before due to his long, 12-year hiatus. In a recent interview with Feherty, he shared that he’s had multiple shoulder surgeries, a hand surgery, and a spinal fusion. Additionally, he revealed that he had had a total of seven surgeries and broke his ankle nine months ago, which required him to wear a cast for four months.
As if his injuries were not enough, Anthony Kim got thrashed by social media users in the comment section of the post. Netizens didn’t spare the twenty-four-time PGA Tour winner either.
The X users didn’t shy away from thrashing Dustin Johnson and Anthony Kim
2024 hasn’t been going well for either of the LIV golfers. In the three majors that have happened yet, Johnson missed cuts in two of them (the Masters and the US Open) and finished at T43 at the PGA Championship. Pointing to Johnson’s recent performances, a user said, “DJ would make me fall asleep.” Another similar comment bashing the twenty-four-time PGA Tour winner said, “No interest. DJ has the charisma of a pail.”
Talking about Anthony Kim, he couldn’t perform well in any of his 2024 tournaments, and the best finish he had was a T46 at the LIV Golf Nashville, and his second best was a T48 at the LIV Golf Houston. In the rest of the events, he finished outside of the top 50. Alluding to the performances of both the LIV golfers, a user said, “They aren’t even second or third tier players.”
Dustin Johnson turned forty this year, and Anthony Kim turned thirty-nine. Coupling the bad performances of the LIV golfers in 2024 with their age and Kim’s return after 12 years, a user replied to the X post’s question, “They both coming out of retirement for this one?”
Do you think Anthony Kim will be able to make a surprising and impressive return after his injuries? Will Johnson and Kim be able to win back the support of their fans? Only time will tell.
