The gushes of the dreaded 2024 PGA Tour’s bad weather curse seem to have made their way to the major championships too. After recurrently delaying several events of the Tour, the first round of the Masters also succumbed to this curse, which led the Augusta National Golf Course authorities to discontinue the round.

The start of the first major of the year was surrounded by heavy rain and speedy winds in Augusta, Georgia. This led to an unprecedented discontinuation of the first round of the event, leading to wide disarray among patrons. After initially delaying the first-round tee times for several hours due to overnight and morning rain, the event has now been forced to cease midway by the weather gods that rule the Augusta National Golf Course.

So what’s next? Well, for now, it has been declared that the first round’s coverage of the event will continue tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. ET, whereas the second round’s coverage will take place tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET. This makes up for the third year in a row that the Masters Tournament has faced the wrath of inclement weather.

Quick Fact: In the last 40 years, there has been a weather hurdle in more than half of them!

The event was initially postponed by two and a half hours, making its start on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. ET when Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tom Watson, took the ceremonious shot to signal at the event. Not only did this result in tee times being pushed into the afternoon, but it was also a major reason why Round 1 will now linger on to Day 2. The horn was blown at 7:52 p.m. ET on Thursday due to impending darkness, leaving players who were teeing up the choice to continue their remaining nine holes on Friday starting at 7:50 a.m. ET.
