The Masters tournament comprises not just the swings of top golfers but also a variety of traditions. It is the illustrious traditions such as the Champions Dinner and Par-3 Contest that define the iconic nature of the tournament. Other than players engaging in enthralling competition, and adhering to customs at the Augusta National, there’s also delectable food that truly stands out!

Food plays a pivotal role in the Masters. We all know how loved Champions Dinner is amongst the fans. It more than just a dinner, it is a means to honor all the golfers who have had the chance to beautifully wear the green jacket. But the renowned food in question here, that is also attainable by the patrons, unlike the feast of Champions Dinner, is the pimento cheese sandwich.

When taking a look at the menu for 2024, it’s clear that the Pimento Cheese Sandwich remains an integral part of the traditional tournament. Costing only $1.50, the pimiento, cheese, and mayonnaise blend on white bread is simple and good. But most importantly, the sandwich has a history, making it a tradition to date.

The original chef for the pimento sandwich was Nick Rangos from Aiken, South Carolina. Nick provided the sandwich to ANGC for nearly 45 years until the club switched contracts. Afterward, a local restaurant chain known as Wife Saver took Rangos’s place. The restaurant was already there, making fried chicken sandwiches for the Augusta National.

The chef was asked to hand over the recipe, but he declined to do so. Hence, the restaurant faced a new challenge of replicating Nick’s recipe for the ever-loved pimento sandwich. Despite the efforts and getting close, the challenge could not be succeeded. The vendor changed again in 2013, but this time it was said to be worse, and it did not sit well with the patrons.
