His first event on the PGA Tour was the 2019 US Open, where he missed the cut after scoring a disappointing 9-over through the first two rounds. The 27-year-old started playing full-time on the Tour in 2022. Young is yet to grab his first Tour victory. But through thick and thin, one thing has remained constant for him: his support system.
His parents, David Young and Barbara Young, have supported him in every decision he has made.

Besides David, Barbara has also played an instrumental role in Cameron’s career. She also has a golfing background. In fact, she is also seen caddying for the American golfer from time to time, especially during his early days. According to Golfweek, the two have been a part of Young’s rise as a golf elite from the very start. They also supported him when he played baseball and hockey before going all in for golf. While David mainly helped with his teaching skills, Barbara oversaw the logistics.

Where did David and Barbara Young meet?
While their son Young is collecting a lot of fame, both David and Barbara like to keep their personal life private. There’s no widely known information available about how the two met or when they tied the knot.
Their common interest in golf is something that could have sparked the connection. In fact, that is something driving them to still accompany their child as a caddy occasionally. Reflecting on the same, “He caddied for me for nine holes at Bay Hill a couple years ago, 2022, I believe,” Young said to Golf Monthly.
For instance, David recently caddied for Cameron at the 2025 Travelers Championship when his regular caddie became sick. The 2025 Wyndham Championship winner managed to shoot a 65 with his father as his caddie.

Cameron Young’s relationship with his parents
Cameron Young has a very smooth and easygoing relationship with his parents. The two have always been a pillar of support for Young, right from the time when he was playing his first tournament at the age of 9.
“There was a practice round and he was paired with a father and son, and the father was micromanaging this kid. I took him aside and said, ‘Cam, I’m your caddie. You’re the player. This is how it will be. Every decision is on you, but you can ask me what I think. But if you misbehave, I’m still your mom,'” she said. Since then, Young went on to Wake Forest and the PGA Tour, where he was the Rookie of the Year in 2022.

During the PGA Championship 2022, Cameron Young and David Young shared how their relationship is, both on and off the course.
David Young and Cameron Young have been playing rounds of golf together to improve his game. And well, they are not the stereotypical student-coach duo. After every match, instead of going through every single hole and shot and figuring out the mistakes, they have a rather healthy approach to seeing things. “If he plays well, there is not much to talk about. If he plays okay, we may chat about a few things. If he does not play how he wants to, that’s when I just let him vent for a while,” said David Young.
“It’s a really, really easy relationship for us. It’s not real tricky. First and foremost, he’s my son, and most of the time is spent in that relationship. Every once in a while, we’ll do a little work if he needs to. And mostly it’s him tinkering, finding something that he thinks works, just making sure it makes sense, and looks OK, and makes sense from a mechanics standpoint,” continued the golfer’s father.
Every time the PGA Tour player goes for completion, his father sees him play on the television, but the 2022 PGA Championship was special as he was on-site at Southern Hill to watch him live, and, well, it did turn out to be lucky for him too. Young finished with an impressive T3.
David and Barbara Young form a strong relationship based on their shared love for golf and support for their son Cameron. Throughout Cameron’s journey on the PGA Tour, the two have offered him emotional and practical support. The long-standing relationship, where the father taught him to swing and the mother took him to tournaments, remains intact today as well.
