Is Ewen Ferguson the next big thing in golf, or just another flash in the pan?

Golf can work wonders when consistency meets dedication! Ewen Ferguson is a shining example; he has shown tremendous promise since turning pro in 2016. The talented Scotsman from Glasgow has made a significant impact on the DP World Tour, impressing fans and critics alike with his outstanding performances. 

As of July 6, 2024, which also marks his birthday, he is celebrating in style as he battles for supremacy at the BMW International Open 2024 in Munich, Germany. Sitting in first place after two rounds, Ferguson is having a great run, with scores of 67 and 64 in the two rounds of play.

His family is behind the success

Behind every successful individual is a supportive family, and Ewen Ferguson is no exception. Born in July 1996, the talented golfer’s journey has been shaped by the love and encouragement of his close-knit family. His parents, Mark and Dorothy Ferguson, have been supporting him, while his siblings, Lewis and Eilidh, have been his biggest cheerleaders. 

When he’s not on the course, OWGR #168 cherishes quality time with his family and values sharing his achievements with the people who matter most. The Ferguson family’s unwavering support has been instrumental in Ewen’s success, and he continues to make them proud with every achievement. 

After his first DP World Tour win at the 2022 Commerical Bank Qatar Masters, he expressed how this meant for him and his family. He said to the Scotsman, “I wanted to appreciate it and reminisce on the way home. Also, I’m at home with my family and loved ones this week, so I can have a proper celebration with them,”  He shares his love life with Anna Canning, who, like his family, keeps her life private. Amateur and junior achievements

Though details of Ewen Ferguson’s school life are scarce, his impressive achievements on the golf course during his formative years speak volumes about his potential. In 2013, he became the first Scottish golfer in a decade to win the prestigious Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool, showcasing his talent and dedication to the sport. In 2014, he became the first player to hold that crown and the Scottish Boys and Scottish Boys Stroke Play titles simultaneously.

As a top 54 junior golfer globally, in 2014, he received an invitation to participate in the esteemed Junior Invitational Tournament. Following a successful amateur career, Ferguson turned professional in 2016 with an impressive handicap of +5. His hard work and perseverance paid off when he officially became a European Tour member on November 8, 2021, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.

Highlights of his professional career

His hard work paid off in his first rookie season, as the Scottish athlete bagged his first DP World Tour victory, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, on March 27, 2022. He was three shots adrift as he entered the Sunday showdown, but he edged out with an eagle and a birdie in the last three holes, ultimately securing the win by a stroke. He became the third Scottish golf professional after Andrew Coltart and Paul Lawrie to hold the prestigious pearl trophy. 

Expressing his excitement, Ferguson stated, “I just can’t believe it at all. Years and years of hard work. My mom, dad, sister, brother, and all my family gave me everything to try and get to this moment, and it’s an absolute dream come true.”

He added another striking title to his bag: the ISPS Handa World Invitational on August 14, 2022, at Galgorm Resort in Northern Ireland. He carded a remarkable 61, 70, 68, and 69, finishing with a total score of 12-under-par 280. Overwhelmed with emotion, the 28-year-old Scotsman exclaimed, “It feels unbelievable. I just can’t believe how calm I was out there.” Moreover, his achievements also caught the attention of sponsors, further solidifying his reputation as a rising golf star.

Amassing sponsor deals

On March 22, 2024, the young Scot became a brand ambassador for the prestigious ISPS Handa. Feeling honored, Ferguson stated, “It is a dream to represent ISPS Handa. Doctor Handa and the entire ISPS Handa team do so much in the sports industry to give back and help people. I have been so impressed by all the work they have done to help raise awareness and grow disability golf, and I cannot wait to use my platform to help.”

Before joining the ISPS Handa, he had gathered an esteemed list of partners that included Titleist, Cobra Puma, and Whisky 1901. In 2020, he signed with TaylorMade Golf to play their clubs and also wears Puma Golf apparel. But in January 2021, he signed a deal with Cobra Puma Golf on club, apparel, and footwear.

On signing a one-year deal, the 28-year-old stated, “I am delighted to join the COBRA PUMA GOLF family and cannot wait for the 2021 season to start. I’ve always loved the Puma range, but to now represent the Cobra brand is also a dream come true. The product’s performance is second to  none.”

Further in 2022, he solidified his stature by adding a multiyear deal with Cobra Puma Golf, which he shared on his Instagram. Additionally, he is supported by Modest Golf, Evans Vanodine, Carrick Packaging, Nexus Packaging, and Trinity Group which further solidifies his emerging status on the DP World Tour.

His interests and friendship values

Outside of golf, Ewen Ferguson’s passions include supporting his beloved Rangers Football Club. When he’s not on the course, he enjoys exploring new destinations with his girlfriend Anna, frequently visiting Dubai and desert landscapes. His father often joins him on these adventures, sharing the joy of travel and quality time.
