Caddies play a very important role in a golfer’s gameplay and professional career. It seems like PGA Tour pro Jason Day understands that. After just six weeks of having Steve Williams as his caddie, Day knew the partnership wasn’t working so he called it quits. The reason? Their styles didn’t match. But as they say, every ending is a new beginning, it was just the case for Day.

After parting ways with the veteran looper, the Australian golfer joined forces with none other than Luke Reardon. The two have been friends since high school, and it’s only right that they share a good relationship.

Jason Day thinks Luke Reardon is a “solid caddie”

Jason Day and Luke Reardon have been partners since 2020. Their early friendship sure helped them make a bond that will last. The golfer says that Reardon brings a deep understanding of the game quite like he hasn’t seen before which ultimately helps both of them reach success. “Luke has known me since I was in high school. He knows my game very well, and he has become a solid caddie,” said the golfer, per Golf Monthly.

You will be surprised to know that Day is not the only one who thinks he made a good decision by hiring Reardon as his permanent caddie. The golfer’s former coach and mentor Colin Swatton, who took the golfer under his wing when he was only 12, also speaks highly of Reardon. “Putting someone on a more permanent basis is a good move for Jason because he doesn’t have to adjust to different styles every other week,”  said Swatton, approving of Day’s decision.

He also said that Reardon is what Day might need at that moment because of Reardon’s skills, “Luke is a hard worker and a diligent caddie.” And guess what? The decision turned out to be better than any one of them expected. Day won his first PGA Tour in five years at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson which helped him reach the world’s top 20.

Many fans don’t know this but Day had quite the same plans with Tiger Woods‘s ex-caddie when he appointed him. But did that turn out as he expected? Well, no.

Jason Day had high hopes for his partnership with Steve Williams

When Day and Williams shook hands, they had some pretty high hopes for one another. “That started with—this is no disrespect to my mates that were on the bag. They were very, very hard workers. They were great. But I think Steve will take me to that next level, and I’m hoping that’s the case,”  the golfer had previously said.

After a mere six tournaments into their partnership, the duo’s highly anticipated future shattered into tiny pieces after only a single top-10 finish. The Northern Trust Open was the last blow for Day, and when he missed the cut by a single heartbreaking shot, their partnership was over for good. As he closed their collaboration, Day said it was just the difference in the way they practiced golf that led to this decision: “It was a disconnect between old school and new school.”
