While for some, victory comes fast-paced. For others, it takes a little longer. The story of Marina Alex is pretty much the same. She became part of the LPGA Tour back in 2014 and has so far earned only two victories – the first being six years after joining the Tour. Nonetheless, she has been a stern part, playing significant matches in the world of golf.

Golf runs deep in the blood of Marina Alex

Marina Alex is the only female child of Steve Alex and Marissa Alex. Although nothing much is known about her mother, there is one thing that she has in common with her father. Both share a deep love for golf. Steve Alex, although not as renowned as this daughter, has been a golfer since his teenage days. Even today, he participates in senior amateur championships and enjoys hitting the clubs at the courses.

Marina Alex also has a brother, Anthony Alex, who plays on the golf team at Florida State University. Currently residing in South Florida, she was an interscholastic golfer during high school. The American Pro won individual state titles in 2007 and 2008 and also qualified for the 2009 US Women’s Open. However, she ended up missing the cut.

Alex went to Vanderbilt University, and well, her love for playing golf continued and she wanted to make a name in the field. She started playing collegiate golf and won the 2010 SEC Championship for her college. Two years later, the 34 YO turned pro and participated in the Symetra Tour in the same year. It was after bagging the third position at the Four Winds Invitational the following year that grabbed her a spot on the Ladies Tour.

Apart from golfing, Marina Alex also enjoys fishing as a hobby. Her Instagram account is either filled with her pictures of hitting the clubs or she is seen fishing in different places. Some with professional captains and others just for fun. In one of her fishing endeavors, she had the best description of herself, “Golfers can fish too!” She has an entire series based on her learning to fish with Mike Iaconelli.

Apart from all the male figures, she has had Michelle Wie West as her best friend ever since she joined the LPGA Tour. From hugging Wie West and congratulating her on her retirement to being there for her wedding, the duo have seen each other grow on the course.

Marina Alex’s professional golfing journey after COVID

Marina Alex suffered to keep up with her regular routine during the Covid-19. But as the tournament resumed, it got worse. She started feeling terrible back pain. She tried to make her way through it at the ANA Inspiration in September 2020, but she realized she had to take a break. She aimed to recover in time for the CME Group Tour Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open. However, cortisone injections and physical therapy didn’t help, so she competed again in March 2021 after a short break.

Finally, she had her come back. In May 2022, she won with a 10-under at the Palos Verdes Championship. That was her last win. But looks like she might be three rounds away from bagging her third win on the Tour. At the FM Championship, Alex went completely bogey-free for the opening round and settled for a 4-under 68, giving her a one-shot lead. If she continues with the momentum, she might end up lifting the trophy on Sunday. Do you think the 34 YO will win the inaugural edition of the TPC Boston event?
