It is not common to witness a golfer play three events with three different caddies. But hey, that’s Sepp Straka! Setting a record has been a usual thing, be it with the caddie change or with his performance. The 32-year-old, when he joined the PGA Tour, made the record by becoming the first golfer from Austria to get the PGA Tour card after finishing third in the Web.com Tour Championship. He is now a 4x Tour winner, having recently won the Truist Championship.

Straka, with his performance this year, has already bagged two titles. Earlier, due to the injury, his regular caddie, Duane Bock, had to stay off the course for a while, in place of whom he brought in Drew Mathers for the Truist Championship. Well, the partnership turned out to be the best, as Straka won, and Mathers, who is an aspiring tour pro, got a $360,000 paycheck. Despite the great partnership result, Straka, for the PGA Championship, is adding a third caddie for this season, his twin brother, Sam Straka. Sam is also inclined towards golf and is a collegiate golfer at the University of Georgia

Sharing about the update at the pre-tournament press conference, he said, “Yeah, Dewey [Bock] had an MRI yesterday, my regular caddie. He’s not going to go this week but hopefully will be ready to come up here in the next few weeks. They told him to rest a little bit. He’s feeling a little bit better, so things are looking up there, and my brother is going to be in the bag this week.”

Sharing further, he elaborated on his plans. “It was already planned. Dewey’s daughter is graduating from college on Friday, I believe. So my brother was already going to caddie on Friday and Saturday. So it wasn’t a huge change of plans. We just told him he’s going to be going the whole week instead.” In the past, the Austrian brothers have been great supporters of each other, as they share similar interests.

The duo in the past had achieved outstanding success as a team. Earlier, they paired up in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Starting off, the Straka pair recorded a bogey-free round with 8 birdies to set the new tournament record with 63. Even though the performance in the later round slipped a bit, the brothers’ duo found a sweet spot at T10 to finish off their Olympic campaign together. Now, five years later, Sam Straka’s improved game knowledge and Sepp Straka’s exceptional form could be the deadly combination for the competitors.
